How do people monitor this forum?

Since the forum doesn't have a RSS feed or email alerts, I've been using Google Reader, which can create a feed of its own for a page. Unfortunately, its not infallible, and will often report the forum has changed when it actually hasn't. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

I simply do the Listal Forum Search without any criteria in the text box. Maybe there will be an official way to stay alerted in Listal's future.

I don't understand, can't people just click forum at the top and see all the latest posts?

Yes, but sometimes days go by with no posts, so the need arises to be alerted when something new has been posted. Also, when there are new posts, you have to a) remember when you last visited the forum to determine which threads have new posts and b) look through old threads with new posts to determine which of them are new. Also, in the Announcements forum, the threads are now sorted by date of the first, rather than the last, post, so checking requires looking at all the dates.
In forums on other sites, you can subscribe to threads you're interested in or you've posted in and just get alerts when a new post has been made to them, with the posts themselves included in the emails. You can choose how often to get the emails as well, so, if you're having a discussion, you can get an immediate email, or you can set daily/weekly email digests to reduce the volume of email you receive.
An RSS feed for forums has the additional advantage of keeping you from having to look through threads that you've already decided you're not interested in. They only show up once in the feed, and you don't have to visit the forum at all until either a thread comes along that you're interested in or you wish to start one. You can go through the updates for several forums quickly this way, and if your RSS reader shows no new threads at any of 20 forums you monitor, then there's no need to visit any of the 20 forums.

I read the post above and when I do all I get is gibberish I don't understand a word your saying Hyomil.
Really, if you care that much you should go to those "forums on other sites" rather than this one. Really I thought you got emails for everything you said.
Don't undestand why you would go through a thread your not interested in and that basically sums up what I have to say for the last paragraph.
(Please don't take this as and insult I'm not saying this out of anger I'm stating it to kinda say what I'm confused about or can't understand where your getting at.)

You get emails when there are new posts on this forum? If so, please explain how. I only get emails about votes and comments on lists, not forum posts.

I don't go through threads I'm not interested in. But when I go through threads I *am* interested in, I have to scroll down to find the last post I read, which I don't with other forums that include a link to first new post since my last visit.
I suspect the reason for your confusion is that you don't subscribe to threads at any forums (which requires registration at the forum) or use RSS readers (aka feed readers or news aggregators). If that's the case, try subscribing to some threads at a forum like anythingbutipod Subscribe to this Thread) and using a RSS reader like Google Reader to subscribe to some feeds and that should clarify the usefulness of those features.

I thought so but I guess not.

Oh that's what you mean. Well that I can't really anwser as that would be up to Tom to do all the configurations for that.
And really don't like subscribing to a lot of things and I do know very little about RSS feed(as in searching for things through my psp that's it lol) and I really don't go to forums other than this one. I like this one it's plain and simple and easy to go through, not like others I've seen that are quite hard to go through.
