How Do I Add A Person To Listal?

flagrant disregard 10 years, 1 month ago at Apr 12 17:23 -
I haven't used this website a lot lately and I forgot how I managed to add a few people.

There are various techniques.

The most common is to find their wikipedia page. Copy then the full link to their wikipedia page and paste it in the search field in listal and click on 'All'.

If the person is an actor, then the only correct way is to import an imdb link of one of the actor's movies. Then click on the name of the actor on the movie page and his profile will be created. If you use wikipedia instead of imdb to create the profile, then it won't have a TV/Movie history which is bad.

Not entirely true, you can add someone by entering their imdb page url no need to add a movie first.

Also if you enter someone from wikipedia it should usually list movies as long as the names match with the imdb credit data but things may go wrong where there are multiple people of the same name.

Please can you post some examples of people added not from imdb that don't show movies?

I will be adding an option to add missing imdb numbers to profiles added outside of imdb which should fix some issues.

Which specially from these links? Most of these seem to be items that need to be removed or duplicates.

Wouldn't the duplicates be examples of
"people added not from IMDB that don't show movies?"

I guess my point was that if they added from outside imdb with the same name that they are listed in movie credits the movies will show up. If the name is misspelled or different in some way to the name in the credits they won't show up.

I will be adding better tools for reporting and fixing wrong names and duplicates so some of the backlog can be dealt with.

A specific button or link to report profiles is needed. There are numerous profiles being created of random bloggers, social media "models", twitter accounts etc.
Pretty soon, if not already - people will be creating profiles of their own facebook and twitter minions, or their garage band, or their CDR "album" or tattoo artist or inkjet printer "book"... or, well you get the idea...

That's cool, I didn't know that.

That would be really great, so there would be no need to reupload pics from a wrong profile to an imdb-compatible profile.

Can you tell me how often the profiles of movies and people get automatically updated? For example there was added a new entry to the cast of a movie on imdb. When will this new entry also be added to the movie page on listal? It would be nice if it was possible to force a manual update/refresh of a listal profile page.

Like you said, "things may go wrong". Guessing that two people are the same person just because they share their name... is not an infallible system. There is a dozen John Waynes on IMDb.com, and at least two actors named Harrison Ford.
Besides, actors and artists often use pseudonyms or change the way their name is spelled.

I appreciate the hard work behind Listal, but I think the new system -import people from any page in the web- is bad, at least when it comes to actors and directors and suchlike, because it may bring to Listal more duplicates and incorrect profiles. The incorrect and duplicated profiles can be dealt with, but it's a waste of effort anyway.

In my view, things might be better with a different phrasing in the Add item page. Please tell Listal users to import movie people from IMDb.com, not from anywhere they like.

Just my 2 cents.

@flagrant

If a missing person is an actor/actress create that person directly on imdb:
Open a movie page on imdb where that actor is missing and click on edit in the cast section. Then click "add 1 item" and then enter all needed data. For a beginner this procedure may be confusing. I did it already this way with some new actors and new movies.

Wait until the admins on imdb confirm your edit (1 to 14 days). Then you can import the new imdb profile page to listal.

If that person is no actor or has no appearances in TV shows (like some singers or TV hosts), then it's much easier - just import his personal webside.

Maybe look to see if they have their own web site. Otherwise, if they don't have these then they aren't a public figure and wouldn't qualify for a profile.

Apologies for going off track, but not having an Avatar apparently stops you from raising a forum question - But How Do You Remove A Picture - Victoria Justice page is being bombarded by pictures clearly not of her. Sent the person responsible a message saying I think they have made an error only for loads more pictures to be dowloaded to her page?
