A top 10 would be hard, but A Nightmare on Elm Street is the ultimate horror movie.

I love the original Halloween, crap still scares me, always freaked me out as a kid. Others are, in no order would be Paranormal Activity 1, Blair Witch Project, The Shining, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw (original), Amityville(original)

Ive always loved the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Loved them all except Freddys Dead. Friday the 13th 4-8 I loved. Are these cheesy? Some would say yes, but you asked for my favorite not the ones that scared the hell out of me...lol

1. The Exorcist

4. Don't Look Now
5. The Thing
6. The Fly
7. Day Of The Dead
8. Suspiria
9. The Evil Dead
10. Audition
11. Videodrome...
I guess Let The Right In and Pan's Labyrinth would count, but I'm not entirely sure whether they're fully regarded purely as horror films... but then I guess that brings into what exactly makes a horror movie, I mean I'd argue Taxi Driver, Requiem For A Dream, They Shoot Horses and Bad Lieutenant are horror movies in their own right... but then I'm moving away from the point slightly lol...

Good horror movies consist of three major elements "anticipation", "surprise" and "music". Try watching a scary movie with no sound I bet it won't be that scary anymore. Anyway, for me some horror movies are darn right disgusting like "The Thing". Some are just too dark (filmed in poor light on purpose)to figure out what the scary stuff really look like. For example "Alien". Some horror movies are just about killing machines like "Halloween, Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm street". Well back to the "list" topic.
