You know, there's already a 'Horror Films' group (with 71 'members'), but what the hey, I'll play along.

QUATERMASS & THE PIT (1967)
Made by Hammer before they switched exclusively to straight up supernatural horror. While digging a subway tunnel workers find, what they think is a WWII bomb, but is really a spaceship filled with the remains of primitive humans. Weird phenomena ensues and eventually all hell breaks loose.

If you were to ask anyone (knowledgeable) about what the top five Hammer flicks were this would be one of them.

the messanger (it is about a familly whi had moved awy from thier house and the girl and her small son can see the ghosts that her paents cant see) it is nice

and also the hills have eyes, and the omen,the house of wax, hannible and manyyyyyyyyyyyy

or, 'HanniBAL", even.

SUSPIRIA (1977) - Dario Argento
The first of the Three Mothers trilogy (the second movie is INFERNO and the third THE THIRD MOTHER (post-production currently).

Unlike the risible remakes mentioned earlier, SUSPIRIA has passed the test of time and is considered a classic. Will people say the same of SAW(s) in 25+ years?

The story involves a young American ballet student, Susy Banyon (Jessica Harper), who arrives in Germany to attend a prestigious dance academy. Bad things happen, really bad supernatural things.

Suspiria is a great movie. Argento is pretty good in general.
Personally I don't see what anyone likes about Saw. Never saw the sequals, but thoght the first one stunk.

Some favorites:
Cemetery Man(Dellamorte Dellamore)- a great Italian zombie movie. Surreal and creepy, but with plenty of splatter.
A Tale Of Two Sisters- Another surreal and creepy movie. For Korea and based on a Korean folktale.
Audition- what can I say, Miike is great.

Speaking of zombie movies:

Braindead (Dead Alive) - horror comedy, made by everyones favorite auteur, Peter Jackson. Sumatran rat-monkey infects a man's mother, and she becomes undead. Contagion spreads, all hell breaks loose. You gotta see the lawn mower. Unfortunately, the R1 disc is cut.

Tombs of the Blind Dead - twisted 70's euro-horror. Templars executed for witchcraft rise from their graves and do unpleasant things to a group of tourists. Interesting twist: they're blind and find their prey by sound.

A lot of people like RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. The sequels are mostly miss though.

I like RESIDENT EVIL (1 & 2), but as opposed to the games, they came across as action movies rather than horror movies.

You both might like THE EYE, by the Pang brothers. I suppose it might seem like THE SIXTH SENSE, but that's a superficial similarity. It's really much more scary.

Can't wait to see The Eye remake. I love remakes,they're all so great. And Jessica Alba is such a great actress.

There are some good remakes like THE THING (1982) and THE BLOB (1988).

Asian remakes are much more hit or miss. I thought both THE RING & THE GRUDGE were ok, but paled compared to the originals. I didn't even bother with PULSE (go see the original KAIRO if you want to see real slow-burn dread).

I'm willing to withold judgement on THE EYE remake unitl I've seen the (spoiler filled) trailer, at least.

I watched RE-CYCLE last night and in spite of it's horror label , it's more of a dark fantasy with horrific elements. Very much in the vein of LABYRINTH or MIRRORMASK. There were bits of it that reminded me of HELLRAISER and a dollop of Japanese horror (90+'s) tropes.

And on that note:
Another great movie is the LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE with Roddy McDowall, Pamela Franklin, and Clive Revill.

A small group of psychics and scientists take up a challenge to prove or disapprove the existence of ghosts (life after death) at an house with a very unsavory history. Mind games ensue and nothing is what it seems.

Richard Matheson wrote the script based on his book, which should be enough to sell it if you know who Matheson is (if not look him up in the wikipedia).

It's a scary movie well worth checking out.

You're talking about TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) and not TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003) I hope. I hear that as re-makes go, they managed (TCM 2003) to mostly not embarrass themselves and denigrate the original.

I watched the remake of "The Wicker Man" late last night, or super early this morning.

What a bad movie. Have no idea what the original is like---but boy....that's not one I am likely to sit through anytime soon. Since it is part of my collection now, I suppose it could be one of those movies you throw on when you can't sleep...and hope you fall asleep to!

Although, I have plenty of other stuff that I would probably choose first!!

The Halloween series is my favourite, Michael Myers is so cool.

Im starting to really hate the "psychological horror" ones because theyre just so basic and boring, the primal instict of fear comes from the horrific blood and gore movies.

The Scream Trilogy Loved all three of them

All the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, well Except 2 and 6. 1,3,4,5,A new night mare were all good

A NEW NIGHTMARE was particularly good. For better or worse it was the start of the post-modern horror movie. I can't think of one before it; a mainstream horror movie. Sure, PM didn't kick in proper until SCREAM, but Freddy was there first.

I have a HUGE horror movie collection, theres so many to name

I LOVE the Saw trilogy, The Evil Dead trilogy, Puppet Master, any of the "Dead" films, I LOVE Tom Savini and George Romero. I could go on and on, I'm a HUGE horror movie freak! But I'll stop...for now :)
