That's a really hard one! I will say that when I read The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas in middle school (not as apart of class) it became my instant favorite. I should read it again to see how well it holds up, though I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much - if not more - than when I first went through it. I really felt for the characters, the storytelling was brilliant and exciting, it went by so fast despite the fact it was rather long... The only bad part about the book that I later found out was that my Barnes & Noble classics series copy was abridged with a few chapters left out. I intend to read a full translation next time.

If I'm limited to one, I think I'll go with Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. But I'll add that all of his books are the best I've ever read.

The Count of Monte Cristo is also my favorite story. There is an unabridged translation, Robin Buss, Penguin Classics.

Close runner up: Tristan by Gottfried.

That's eerie! But understandable. It's a great book. And I should've guessed Penguin Classics had me covered.

I think my favorite is The Lord Of The Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Although The Stand, Watership Down, and Empire Of The East are fantastic as well.

A Study in Scarlet, our first instroduction to a most curious gentlemen by the name of Mr. Sherlock Holmes, By Aurthor Conan Doyle, supposedly transcribing the journals of the fictional Dr. Watson. Great book, and the start af a litterary movement.

The Secret Histories series by Simon R. Green. Most amazing thing I've read since Harry Potter. Just mind-blowingly awesome.

Ooohh, tough one. For me, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien will always be the best. But, being introduced to A.C. Doyle's Sherlock Holmes only recently, A Study in Scarlet definitely comes in a close second...

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Every chapter felt like a book in itself. I was completely taken in by the story. It is, to me, the perfect book.

I must say The Night Land is probably one of the best novels I've ever read. It's so interesting and vast and I heard it took place a million years into the future so I had to get it.

I love reading books...I really like Jeffery Deaver and Rick Riordren books so much. I should say Vladimir Tod is one of the best books I have read!

Easy. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's got all five of the books in one giant omnibus. It's ridiculously large. Douglas Adams would've probably approved of it.

As a Christian, I have to shout that the Bible is the best book of all time.

However, other than that, either the Guinness books or the Rand McNally road atlases would get my vote.

There are so many fantastic books, it's hard to choose just one, but I'd have to go with 'The Giver' by Lois Lowry!! I know it's a little bit of a younger book, but it's so amazing. I have to go back and read it at least once or twice a year.

It's tough to choose just one, but I'd probably go with "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas. I also loved the "Lord of the Rings", "Middlemarch", and "Tom Jones".

Possibly for me it would be The Riders Of The Purple Wage novella/short story by Philip Jose Farmer - Farmer does for words and story what Hendrix did for the guitar ...you can tell he is having fun...I will post a link to a site which has it availabel later

Either that or Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
