What happens when you report something?

Just wondering. I've reported reviews (mainly) that are still posted on the website so what actually happens when something is reported that isn't immediately offensive?

I'm guessing Tom gets a e-mail/PM with the report if not the mods also.
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Apr 3 21:30 -
I don't think the Mods are alerted, just Tom.

I know that. But how comes the Spam/Irrelevant Reviews still remain for all to see? Also giving that person 50 points for absolute drivel.

I just want an explanation!
DefenderOfKnowledge 17 years, 1 month ago at Apr 3 21:32 -
Well it's not like if a review gets reported it should just dissapear. Eventually, I think the mods will be alerted, then they can delete it or not.

When that happens is up to Tom.

Obviously the person who wrote it should be informed.

But I still see those infuriating reviews that don't help anyone! They should disappear for the love of anything. From that Portugese guy who writes out Synopsis' for BSG to Yoshi, Jez and VV who wrote a single lines.

I just went to review 'I, Robot' and found this review.

www.listal.com/viewentry/100691

Do we know what the protocol is in terms of mod powers and reviews?

There are 3 reviews for 'I,Robot' making a total of 65 words, between them. I think i'm dying inside.

I think the answer to this question is: Nothing.

Just like every internet forum.

Looks like I'm going to have to chuck that 'WWGAD?' bracelet. :(

I feel that little red monster boiling up in me again, its like; we've broken the back of the anime and now I realise, the 'ASLs' are just as bad. (My new term for the people who think this is Match.com)

They will go into a queue of reported items, I admit that I hadn't checked the list this week (until now)

Thanks Tom. Thats good news.

One of my messages should say something along the lines of:
"Maybe there should be an explanation for what a review is." A majority of the ones I reported appear to be 'comments'.

the old version of listal used to say "leave comment/review" so yeah, TONS Of the old reviews are probably leaning more towards being a comment. Even some of my first few reviews are just comments.

Likewise but thats no excuse for the recent SPAM!

I agree.

p.s. not sure if I'm supposed to say this coz Tom mentioned it to me in PM and it may not be the way he ends up going with it, but the idea was to allow mods to make certain 'poor' reviews un-public. they would still show up on the person's profile page, but not in the public realm of reviews, or on the item's page.

They shouldn't get points for it though.

Mods should just delete poor reviews. Makes more sense! Every deleted review = -100 points! Fight fire with fire!

I'm still baffled to what you do to these reviews Tom. Any information in PM or otherwise would be much appreciated? Otherwise I'm reported content for nothing!

What do you mean what do I do with them? I look through the reported items and delete if the report is valid
Moderator
Seaworth 17 years ago at Apr 21 13:37 -
Is the validity according to the criteria that the person who reports places it under? I know offensive material is dealt with quite quickly but what about the likes of Spam or irrelevant contributions?

Are they deleted? Are they stripped of points? What happens to all the single line 'reviews'?

Well all of the reviews you have reported in the past have been deleted (as far as I can remember), there was one from the 19th which I just deleted and one from earlier that I missed. Yes they are stripped of points, since the review no longer exists in the table there is no way of getting points.

Oh ok. Thanks Tom. I was talking about it the other day and couldn't remember what happened after a review was reported so I dug up this thread to see if I missed out on the explanation. Now I know.

Ah crap, I forgot I need to update all of my reviews to meet the requirement, alright, I'd better get to that quickly tonight.

When you click on your review, there should be a red x at the top of the review and next to it says Delete. It should be next to the Edit link.

As for writing a good review www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=writing+a+good+review
