I agree 100%, unfortunately us mods can't do anything about this, it's something Tom needs to do. There are several other movies like this as well (including people rating the new Batman film) it's really annoying. The ratings on unreleased movies should be blocked until the movie is in theaters.

I think this is the best solution. The "Release date" field being in the future could auto-block a movie from getting rated.

Ok I've stopped people rating unreleased movies that have a release date set, for movies with no release date I'm will work on a solution.

W8, that cannot be the solution... there are ways to see some movies... the only thing Tom can do ( or should do in case he wants it ) it´s to give permition to a Mod to delete rating on those kind of cases when it totally impossible to have seen a movie... ( that Mod could also delete spam messages in photos, lists etc... ) - Just an idea ;) everyone works better if its made by humans and not code :P

It was a good option, problem is the realese year isnt always the same as imdb and changes for each country, there´s no "global" date... i think...

What's the solution then? People are still able to rate movies that aren't out yet, so what was the point of this?

Giving mods the option to delete ratings will only lead to disaster. Certain mods on here would delete a rating of someone they didn't like for whatever reason, and they would delete a good rating on a movie they hated. So, I don't think that's a good idea.

The first solution was the best. I know that most movies get released at different times in different countries, but the only other way a user on here would see an unreleased movie is probably from pirating.

If you have a movie for example, that we all know doesn't get released until way later this year or next year, there's no reason anyone should be allowed to rate it. Maybe if it's just a matter of weeks or months it could be a different situation.

Just letting it go doesn't seem to be the right answer, people are still going to dislike it and ask about it, and rightly so. IMDB doesn't allow ratings of unreleased movies either.

People can still just rate without seeing the film, even after it's released. What's the point of just delaying it, and causing problems for those that manage to catch it earlier? Leave it as it is.

"Certain mods on here would delete a rating of someone they didn't like for whatever reason, and they would delete a good rating on a movie they hated." ?! .. if we cant trust Mods, who can we trust? :S didn't even though that could be an issue....

It really shouldn't be. If you find out one of us is doing this, contact Tom and he'll delete all the mod's ratings and for good measure permanently set his or her profile picture to any of the various snowy owl 'O RLY?' meme edits.

Okay, so after this post, I promise you can trust us mods. =]

I am going to try and change it so it gets the earliest release date instead of the US one, I may add the ability to remove ratings as well but that is more work.

"I am going to try and change it so it gets the earliest release date instead of the US one" - best way to do it =)

has for the mods, well, all sites, forums etc have them, each one with is own work to do. and when we accept it, its something we need to find time for. For the last 15 years of internet use, i think the best way to keep a site or forum running is by "human hands", but of course, it has to be trustworthy people. It´s better than lay all the work to poor old Tom :P

I don't think letting mods delete ratings is a good idea at all. I can think of mods right off the top of my head that would use this for evil lol. Sure, if they did do that they'd get called out about it, but it would still mess things up.
