Feedback: Priority of Suggestions/Changes to Listal

Just wanted to know from Listal members what they believe is, from MOST IMPORTANT priority, to LEAST IMPORTANT, just so perhaps we can show Tom what his community feels should be addressed first.

I think the most important one recently was adding DELETE and REPORT buttons, and that's been done, so thanks Tom!

Here is my wish list, in priority order:

1. Revamp tag engine (public/private tags, perhaps hard-coded options for film's language, MPAA Rating, etc..) as its being discuess in other thread.

2. Add interal cross-referencing between Listal entries, so we can quickly see all DVD versions a movie has, perhaps any games associated with the movie, any sequels or prequels, and any remakes or original classics a movie has. heck, even link up a movie with books that the movie is based on. This would make exploring all different parts of listal so much more accessible and also give the community something that IMDb can't even do.

3. Improved display of foreign titles, or just have one title in this style: Foreign Title (English title). This is to help out our Italian, French, German, Czech, Spanish, Portugese, Swedish, etc.. members that get annoyed seeing their favority local movies be listed by english name first.

4. Fix up cast/director list by making it user-editable. Perhaps import ENTIRE cast list from IMDb, and then allow us to choose which actors to display (i.e. only key actors and supporting actors should be listed, not cameos or one-liner roles) and also allow the list to be re-ordered. This is because any movies who are listed in IMDb as 'sorted alphabetically' or 'order of appearance' tend to have key actors completely missing from their Listal entry, while completely minor useless roles are sometimes listed 1st or 2nd.

5. Improve Listal Lists. Make it easier to delete, re-order, add comments to items on list, and ability to handle perhaps up to 300 or 400 items quickly.

6. Make key listal members / VIP members part of 'elevated privileges' users that can set and lock primary images, moderated threads, lock/delete threads, move certain movies to TV section, and vice versa, fix up duplicate music artists, and perhaps only make these members options to edit cast list/description, to prevent tampering of the database as our user base grows.

7. Fix up reviews. Some suggestions are to add negative vote, and to digg style 'hide useless reviews' while bumping good reviews up, truncate very long reviews. Maybe add a seperate 'Quick Comments' or 'Shout Box' section to fill the need of people that want to say 'Spider Man 3 Rocks!' but are too lazy or perhaps not worded enough to write a real review. Another suggestion is to place reviews into a special 'awaiting approval' area, and once members give it enough votes, then it gets added to the movie's page.

8. Add external web-links to item pages, perhaps limited to certain key websites, so we can add wikipedia, rottentomatoes, boxofficemojo, gamespot, etc, links to our items.

9. still a priority, but IMO the least important one at the moment: slap the new kids that sign up and don't contribute anything positive to the site (don't rate, review, add anything to their lists). and they don't pay attention to the slap, give them the boot after x amount of months.

I agree with the first three being most important, but I would like to think number seven is a little higher up on my own scale. I doubt it would be that hard either, as there could be the set "usual" links such as the sites already mentioned (adding of course the official sites) and then blanks for us to fill in our own related sites.

Also, the extension of the report function is another thing that I think is quite high priority as it does not fully cover the areas needed.

and I listed 'external' web links further down (internal web links are hot priority, IMO) because I can see that Tom probably doesnt want traffic to LEAVE listal, so external links, though useful, may not be even in the cards for him.

For now, i add HTML external links to 'Personal Notes' section. It works nicely, but only helps me, nobody else.

Another suggestion, but probably near bottom of list: add writer/author to Movies, with links to those selected authors. But if we add internal links, this may not be even necessary. If I look at 'Green Mile' movie, I'd be nice to see its based on a stephen king book, but if we add a link to 'Green Mile' book, then i can go there, and then i'll see 'Stephen King' listed. so its really a back-burner suggestion.

I agree with the traffic thing, but if he can change the external links to automatically open in a new tab (not a new window please...) then that will hopefully save not only Tom losing users who get distracted on the other site, but us from having to click back a lot to get here if we don't remember to open it in a new tab. ;)

Yes, internal links along with the external links would also be nice.
