Favourite types of horror?

Anonymous 18 years, 6 months ago at Oct 31 16:47 -
It seems to me that most modern horror is generally about torture, bodily mutilation, and people being killed in rather unpleasant ways. Which is OK, but is, for me, the least satisfying type of horror. This type of horror may have its cheap thrills, but seldom produces a film that stands up much to repeated viewing.

By far my favourite type of horror is psychological. Probably because I can think of nothing worse than having my values and beliefs challenged to the point where I can no longer function as a normal, sane human being. I dunno, I guess I find losing my mind and living somewhat scarier than being tortured for a while and dying.

So, what's YOUR favourite type of horror? Body, psychological, supernatural (or any other type you can think of, but I presently can't)? Why?

I guess I like psychological best, I prefer I really spooky story to a lot of blood and gore. And scenes that make you jump every now and then are good too.

It veries alot depending on mood, but in general I like blood and guts. Suspence would be a close second.
I like asian horror for the reason that they can be both at the same time.

Suspense is good; but only if it's actually paid off. Otherwise, the viewer can be left feeling massively cheated. One film which was particularly good for the suspense was the original Japanese version of The Ring.

I love slasher and gore films basically because in my opinion thats what sets off one of our oldest and most sensitive instincts, fear. although it is cool to see peoples guts scattered all over a movie set, people really arent putting in enough effort to scaring people, more into grossing people out, and when they do try to scare people, people cant find a good original idea so they just fix up an idea that people are already aware of and therefore see it coming. im not into psychological horror plainly because ive seen so many dull uninteresting ones, but if someone could make a movie that could create a movie of someone mentally destroyed that would make me scared instead of sitting there bored thinking, sucks to be you, id watch it and probably love it.
