Ronin, without a doubt. Cars chasing each other with rocket launchers being fired from open sunroofs, ah, it doesnt get any sweeter than this.

Casino Royale, when Bond chased the African guy I'll just refer to as 'leaping lizard boy'. Damn, those were sweet moves, got your adrenaline rolling.

and one more:

the beginning of 'Narc'.

All car chases are judged by BULLITT. THE FRENCH CONNECTION has a car chase that is considered excellent. The car chase in FREEBIE & THE BEAN isn't considered a classic; just its ending.

Can't think of any great foot chases; there's the 'Serpentine!' bit for THE IN-LAWS, but that's not really a chase. I suppose the bit at the beginning of RAIDERS (Indy being chased by the warriors), might be considered iconic.

Ronin's chase is great
The Bourne Identity has a great one with a Mini
The Transporter has a good one at the start
Smokey and the Bandit which is car chase movie, not just a scene

I'm a fan of the plane chases in Chevaliers du Ciel... though as someone else mentioned above, the Bourne and Mini chase was awesome.

I'm not a big fan of action films, so not many come to mind but I do like the ones in:

Blues Brothers, as mentioned above.
Burglar, Whoopi Goldberg steals a police bike and is chased by cops in cars, not bad and it kept me entertained.
The 51st State, I remember liking the car chase, and a look on YouTube shows I remembered rightly. (Watch here if you don't mind violence and an angry Scot's man swearing a lot. ;) )

There are probably a few more, but I can't remember right now.

As far chase scenes on foot I really liked the one in Ong-Bak. No CGI or wires were used in that one.

I really liked the car chase..In the 'Fast and the Furious- Tokyo Drift.. where soo many cars..chase a few of them..

Secondly..Trasporter 2 got an amazing chase at the begining..
Cheers..

The Transporter had some awesome chases, (Haven't seen the second yet)

My favorite isn't really a chase, I guess... but Han Solo's little running-down-the-hall-away-from-stormtroopers thing.

Transporter 2 was insanely retarded. flip a car upside in air, just so that bomb gets scrapped off its underbelly by a crane, and then land back on the wheels

excuse me whilst i vomit

the new Bourne Ultimatum has some intense foot chases/jumps, almost 'Casino Royale' style, just looking at the previews. should be great.
Anonymous 16 years, 9 months ago at Aug 2 16:19 -
Ronin, for the car chase, definately. Other good chases are the one with the oil tankers towards the end of License to Kill, the freeway pursuit in Matrix reloaded, and I rather liked the TX chasing Terminator et al in T3. I agree with the Casino Royale foot pursuit (I liked the contrast between the freerunner's graceful agility, and Bond's brute pragmatism), but I also like the foot chase in Heat (the bit with the gun battle).

Oh, and The Bourne Supremacy (or may have been Identity, I can't remember which) for the bit where Bourne throws off his pursuers by figuring out tram times etc, eventually losing them and catching the tram. Not spectacular, but exciting because it showed Bourne using his wits, and was a fantastic piece of tradecraft.

saying 'oil tanker' made me totally remember the ultimate car chase: Road Warrior!

in Casino Royale, all I could say was 'leapin lizards!' lol

that black dude was INSANE in some of the moves he did. I'm glad that hollywood is waking up and doing a lot more stuntwork rather than relying on only CGI effects

i think it was after he return back to Berlin, and nearly got caught..

did he end up getting away on tram, or did it continue with him hiding under a bridge and finally jumping down into a boat? or am i thinking of another film?
Anonymous 16 years, 9 months ago at Aug 2 16:31 -
If I remember rightly, he hid under the bridge to throw them off, then climbed back on just made the tram. Could be wrong, though; what better excuse to re-watch it, eh? :-)

ah yes, T2. Lots of good ones in that movie, namely the helicopter chase scene and the above-mentioned bike vs 18-wheeler.

a recent one to add. Apocalypto. Pretty much from half-way in the film until the end, it's a non-stop foot chase/pursuit thru the jungle, and is some of the most intense adrenaline pumping madness I've seen to date.
Anonymous 16 years, 9 months ago at Aug 7 12:06 -
Thanks for that; that's just reminded me of a film I wanted to catch, but had forgotten about.

another recent great chase scene is Will Ferrell being chased by his nemesis figure skater thru Montreal -- while both had their skates on -- in Blades of Glory. funny as hell.

Blade Runner - Batty (Rutger Hauer) and Decker(Harrison Ford).
vanious 16 years, 7 months ago at Oct 16 1:04 -
WestWorld: the full third of the film devoted to the protagonist being chased by the Gunslinger. It's not fast paced or full of explosions, but it's relentless and you're really left wondering how the protagonist could ever escape.

the matrix, when there was a poliece car and motercycle chase over this guy that had a key to everything. then neo came to save them from the truck collision. best chase scene i ever saw!!!
wiredfu 16 years, 7 months ago at Oct 18 20:31 -
My favorite foot chase is definitely in Banlieu 13 (District 13.) Just watching those guys run and jump made my legs hurt. Excellent examples of parkour.

The car chase scene in The Bourne Ultimatium. F@#kin' unbelivable also it was done with such amazing angles. Honesly, I don't beleive that he (Bourne) should have just got out the car and "walked it off".
Flash 16 years, 7 months ago at Oct 24 6:36 -
Another recent car chase that was really well done was the one in Tarantino's Death trap. Having that young lady flopping around on the hood gave the car chase a new dimension that I haven't seen before. The ending fight scene was pretty cool also. It gives a new meaning to the wearing of spiked shoes.

A couple mentioned above stand out for me. The car chase in the lastest Bourne film & the opening chase from Casino Royale that pays homage to the paccour discipline. Also enjoy the chase scene from Return of the Jedi on them hover-bike-things through an alien jungle.
The Cineast 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 18 6:06 -
Ya, all of the Bourne films have great car, and foot chases.
Claudia 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 19 0:16 -
I agree, the Bourne films have some of the best car and foot chases. I also really liked the one in the recent James Bond film, Casino Royale..
The Cineast 16 years, 5 months ago at Dec 19 3:32 -
Yes, Casino Royale had some good ones. It was also a great film.

There's this really awesome one in Giant Monsters All-Out Attack where Baragon tries to flee but Godzilla pulls him back and blows him to smithereens. It actually lasts a few seconds really, and Baragon was just looking for supple earth to burrow into so he could come back and ambush G. And then you have Pan's Labyrinth, where the general follows Olivia into the maze. Which neither spend much time on the chase aspect.

Pardon for reviving a long dead thread but whatever. I just didn't feel like making a new one.

Okay so I really have no idea what movie this is from but I think this is perhaps the most wtf chase sequence I've seen in a while.

The Bourne Supremacy - The Moscow chase between Bourne in a taxi, the cops, the FSB, and Kirill. The whole time Bourne's driving and dodging all these other cars he's disinfecting his gunshot wound with vodka, using dish towels as bandages, and looking at his map trying to figure out where to go.

Bad Boys II - On the Miami freeway in a Ferrari, chasing a car carrier while dodging cars the bad guys keep throwing onto the road.

The Island - On the near-future L.A. freeway, chasing a semi-trailer while dodging train axles the good guys keep throwing onto the road.
Veed 12 years, 2 months ago at Mar 5 17:55 -
Bad Boys II car chase comes to mind, that movies was just fun. Then there's the chase The Joker gave the Police force that was taking Harvey Dent into custody NOW THAT was amazing "Is that a Bazooka?!"
blankend 12 years, 2 months ago at Mar 6 7:06 -
Bullitt, of course.

The Seven Ups, especially the end where the roof gets peeled off when it hit the rear of the tractor trailer at full speed.

Steve McQueen being chased on motorcycle by the Nazis and trying to jump the barbed wire fence in The Great Escape.

The Vanishing Point.

Death Race 3000.
