The Beat Crusaders do rock. Carlton also rocks in his own special way. Someone should do something creative with that.

*Sigh*
Well, I tried helping but no one, not even the OP did anything of merit.

anime songs? what the???
silent killer 15 years, 6 months ago at Nov 13 3:09 -
I think she means anime openings, endings, and any other little theme that happens to be in an anime.

Basically, anything that Yoko Kanno has had a hand in is worth listening to. So that's a large portion of songs from the Macross franchise, Escaflowne, Arjuna, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, and some others. Songs in particular would be:
Space Lion
After, in the Dark ~torch song~
Do You Remember Love
Voices
Tank!
Northern Cross
Stamina Rose
Inner Universe
Mushroom Hunting
Fantasie Sign
Green Bird
Goodnight Julia
Adieu

.... well, you get the picture. I could go on, but I'm afraid I've already lost anyone that was still actually following this thread.

Nope I'm here. :D
Yoko Kanno is always pure win but I love anything with Maaya Sakamoto and even better when it's a combination of the two. Though lately I've been listening to the music from Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo) alot, but that's probably because it's real good work out music (especially the OP songs although the first two I think are by some Jrock band but they really get you pumped up nonetheless). Tsuneo Imahori I think is the guy who did the music for that show and I think he also did some work with Yoko Kanno...

No argument there. Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno together are awesome. It also doesn't hurt that May'n is hot like fire. Lately is seems like anime songs are leaning more towards rock. Hell, I just found an anime using a Blue Hearts song for their opening, which is great, cause I like that stuff, but I sometimes find myself missing the super sugary hyperpop stuff that was popular a few years back. Ofcourse, I could always just watch One Piece for my fix on that =)

Stance Punks or TM revolution are nothing to scoff at either though.

To be honest I think the best anime OPs are the ones that are made specifically with the show in mind instead of simply promoting so and so artist. It's depressing when you get the OST expecting those songs to be on there only to be sorely disappointed and expected to buy the single. Not that I don't want to support so and so artist but I don't know anymore. I miss the karaoke version...

What really perplexed me though was that one anime that used that Duran Duran song...

Well, to be fair using the The Blue Hearts for a theme song isn't really going to make anyone money. The song in particular was almost about 20 years old.

I could see how it could become annoying using an anime to pitch some artists new album, but that's how they do it in Japan. Everything is tied into an anime and every possible inch of it can and will be used to push some product or another. They do it that way because they know it will sell and they don't want to end up like the american anime scene where the only source of revenue came from actual dvd sales as opposed to getting a penny here and there from so and company for showing their product. It seems were getting off topic.

Rumba and Marionette both from Zoku Sayonara Sensei are freaking cool. Listening to it with the Opening and ending clips make them even crazier.
