Fan Made Games

i dont know if any body takes the time to make them but i think peoplee shoulde post their ideas on games based off other games. i persoaly have thought of a destroy all humas game, i was drawing cryto and then played around with his look and then boom i got a new furon, then i made a new ship and wepons and such and now i have a whole game planed out.

I have no idea how to make games, but there's quite a few awesome fan-made remakes of DOS classics out there.

@Prelude: do you have any links? i adore many DOS-games, so i'm interested in any well-made remakes. i only heard of an Ultima remake, but never looked further into it.

@Bael: Here's a bunch
King's Quest I & II VGA remakes, by AGD Interactive (a group of 'Anonymous Game Developers') - and they're also remaking Quest for Glory II (really looking forward to that one:

Ur-Quan Masters, a fan-made complete remake of Star Control II, possibly my favorite DOS game ever:

download at sc2.sf.net
The Silver Lining, an unofficial continuation of King's Quest series, still in beta:

Infamous Adventures, another group of amateur game developers, has already remade King's Quest III, and Space Quest II remake is near completion. They also have two secret projects in the works:

Ultimate Stunts, a fan-made complete remake of the classic DOS racing game, Stunts (I believe it was called 4D Sports Driving in Europe). Its not finished yet, but the beta experimental version can be downloaded.

And though these aren't remakes per se, the Scumm-VM is a fan-made project, designed to bring old DOS games to life on new OS and PC hardware. All these games in my list are supported, and many of them are available thru abandonware sites as a bonus :)

my job i want to do in the future is be a gamer but those games they were probly hard they look awsome though ha cool fan made

You want to be a gamer? That's not a job.
You can be a game developer though ;) only it takes mad skills I can tell you that!

I have a few lay outs for Game designs... but they are still flawed, and I need to learn a bit of programming to make em...
I have a plan based loosely around most of the RPG games I have seen, I took qualities from each one, dumped em in a blender and Voila!
I just need some skill in making games X__X
A Gamer is not a job, they don't make enough money, and half of em probably die early from lack of exercise and brain cancer :P, long term effects probably include severe eye damage and brain damage
They are like the Artist job spots, you can't make them a full job, else you'll go hungry, you need a main job where you get most of the money and the other job as a way of getting a lil extra green

i have plenty of game ideas but im no designer
i even got one from a book i read

whenever someone says they want to be a gamer, i think of this joke LOL

WOW LOLZ

well, gary larson, as brilliant as ever ... ;) however, there are some pro gamers who can live _very_ well off their "sport", but those are the absolute minority. still, our (de)generation X often clinges to this hope in the face of lack of any other skills.
by the way, i found a great site collecting information about remakes of the classic Ultima DOS-games:

thanks for your links Prelude, gotta check them out when i have some time.

A gamer doesn't make enough money? By just playing games you don't make ANY money... I don't know... is there some secret society where playing games automatically ensures someone places money on your bank account?

i think what Wolf Paw meant was the "pro"-gamer. one that dedicates his "working time" to playing and tries to live off it. be it by entering tournaments or powerleveling/goldfarming for some chinese internetcafe.

Oh right, professional gaming! Yeah, that IS an option but you have to devode a lot of time to it. It's cool though for those guys to make so much money with it.

yup i wanna do that when i grow up
