Facebook app for listal?

I noticed that facebook now has all these new applications people can use. One site, flixter.com (which is like a worse version of listal, with just movies, except it seems more people use it) created a facebook app that lets you add movie reviews and movies you want to see to your facebook profile, and lets you rate them through facebook. It's basically just the flixter website, but on facebook, so you can do two things at once.
I added the app cause it's interesting, but I don't want to have to re-rate everything and I like listal much more. Is listal considering developing an app to link listal accounts to facebook accounts? I think it would be a great way to attract more people to the website as well- apps catch on like crazy.
What do you think?

Yes! I was thinking the exact same thing.
Listal is sooooo much better and I didn't want to re-rate all my movies.

Personally, I'd be all for that as well. Don't know how much work is involved in something like that, though.. but it would be great promotion.
Would be nice if it showed maybe the last five items I've added and maybe link to the review or something.

You can get the last however many items you've added in a widget form - for music: www.listal.com/widget/owned/music
I'm assuming Danny wants to be able to add and rate stuff from facebook too - that might be nice. If a widget to do that were avaliable I might put it on my website (when I create a website that is!)

Well, unfortunately facebook doesn't let you add in raw HTML like MySpace. So a dedicated Facebook app needs to be written.

Tom the man!! any progress report??

I am looking forward to the Facebook app., having recently signed up (and become sort of addicted) to that. iRead is a poor subsititue, especially since it means building up my list *again*. Actually, iRead is OK, but as I've already used Listal to do the same thing, it seems a bit pointless (for me).
How's the app. going?

I am looking forward to the facebook app too, any word on when it is coming, or a progress update?

Speaking of facebook... www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2440804672

I've joined, but looks like it's just you and me at the moment...

Yeah, I'll make a another post that shows up on the front page then we might get more.

I am trying to release something today

If it's there, I'm not seeing it. No rush, though - I'd rather use an app. which runs pretty smoothly, rather than one that needs ironing out loads.

Ok you can add them now! There are many functions missing such as browse people, custom lists and other stuff but these will be added as time goes on.
For simplicity I have added the site as 6 seperate applications
apps.facebook.com/movieslist/
apps.facebook.com/listaltv/
apps.facebook.com/musiclist/
apps.facebook.com/bookslist/
apps.facebook.com/gameslist/
apps.facebook.com/dvdlist/
Comments welcome.

The apps seem cool, but I don't like the small part that appears on my FB profile. I wish it included like "last 5 items rated" instead of only my 5 top rated movies and a list of my reviews.
I also wish there was an option for a more minimal FB profile box, that instead of showing all the movie/tv posters, just showed recent ratings (with star pictures).
Finally, there doesn't seem to be any connectivity that makes use of facebook on the profile box, something like "My rating" vs. "My friends' ratings", etc.
Also, 6 separate apps seems more complicated to me. A "Listal" app would seem more logical to me- but these are a great start! Thanks so much for working on this.

I can add an option for this.

Not sure what you mean exactly? You mean the boxes as they are with stars under and then remove the reviews?

I would like to add some features for friends soon not sure what you mean by ""My rating" vs. "My friends' ratings"" on the profile box though.

It would be complicated deciding what to put on the profile box and this way people can choose which media types they are interested in. I will add links between the applications soon. I can potentially add a global listal application in the future if this is the wrong strategy.

What I meant by a minimal box was one that didn't take up so much room. Instead of showing ANY posters it would just say
"my last 5 ratings:
(5 stars) movie a
(3 stars) movie b)...."
etc. Or it could even have 5 movie posters across the top for 5 top rated movies, and then list 5 most recent reviews. I don't know, any way to make it smaller/less obtrusive would be good, I think! The option to get rid of the reviews would help with this a lot.
For friends ratings, I meant like, if it said: my ratings-
"(5 stars) movie a"
next to it it could say "friends say- (average rating)" or something. just a way to make it a little more social networking and a little less simple lists. Any way you can come up with to integrate what friends do/think with what we do/think is a good step forward, IMHO.

I never figured out a way of calculating the friends rating on list pages in a fast way before but thinking about it now I might be able to do it. Currently the only way is to look at the individual item pages (this will work for facebook friends soon). I do have some ideas of other features to add though.

I think i will make features of the profile box selectable :
Display recently rated (Yes/No)
Display top rated (Yes/No)
Display recent reviews (Yes/No)
I can add anything else like tags/actors etc.. if there is demand

Sounds good! One last minor thing- when reviews are displayed, it doesn't say for what movie, which makes things a little confusing. They also cut off after a few sentences with no link available to continue reading the review- so it seems pointless to include the blurb. So that should probably be looked at. Sorry for all the suggestions but this is so cool and will be awesome once it's finished!

Thanks for these apps - I've been waiting to be able to import my stuff from listal :-)

I've just recently started to really use Facebook, so I'm thrilled to see you already have a listal app for it. :D
It looks great so far, looking forward to seeing what else you come up with. May have some suggestions after I get to play with it a bit more :)

The books and DVDs applications are the ones I'm using. I'd quite like to be able to choose how many book/DVD images to show on my profile - and maybe choose whether to show recently added, owned, wanted, or a combination - and maybe show the owned, wanted etc. figures next to the pictures on profile (i.e. number of books owned, etc.). I'm quite happy with these apps, though, all in all :-)

i added the movies application, but how do i get my information to transfer over, it seems to have set me up with a new account?

There is an option to do it when you start using it but you must of clicked the new account link. Paste or msg your facebook id here and I will link your account up for you.

Ok I've linked up your account with facebook.

Thanks for the Facebook app, Tom!
Flixter Movie application appears on profile page showing what was last watched, last reviewed and want to see... can we get that?

I would have thought that presenting the recently added content in the same manner as it appears on your profile page at Listal would be a good way to present it on a Facebook profile, then providing links to the various segments of the users Listal profile, ie. DVDs, Books, Movies, Games, Music... I'm glad this app exists, but would like to see it brought together into a single app and refined somewhat, might be a good way of luring new users to Listal. What is everyones thoughts on this?

I agree with cewood. A listing of the most recently added items with links to each page makes more sense.
But I love the fact that there is a Facebook app. Thanks Tom!

[I was rushed, and didn't finish this off properly when I first posted it, so I'm editing it now:]
I think splitting it into different apps, for each category, was a good idea, and am broadly pleased with the way they work, having had them for a few days. As I've said previously, the only thing which [slightly] bugs me is the current lack of any editorial control as to *what* is shown on my profile (chiefly, I'm not really interested in having the reviews show up, as they lengthen the app boxes, and I'd like to be able to put them on the left-hand, more narrow, collumn on my profile, if I could). I think someone has also mentioned that, on the profile page, the review snippets don't actually state the item that is under review. If they reviews have to be there, I think there should be something to say what the item is! Tom, I notice on your Facebook profile that reviews do come appended with the item thumbnails, but I'm not seeing this on my own profile, even though, when I go to the app itself, reviews do come with thumbnails. Other than these two, relatively minor, gripes, however, I'm quite happy, all told - thanks for taking the time and effort to do this for us, Tom!

What happen to the app? I cant access the link. did they get taken down?

I didn't see any point continuing development on the apps which were basically slower and smaller version of the main site here.

The one thing the apps were good for is advertising for Listal, when people check your Facebook profile and go "Gee! That looks pretty neat."
Other than that, I agree they don't serve as much of a purpose. And the widgets perform a similar function.

i would like it to enter a post on your facebook profile everytime i ad something as "watched" or "read"
maby everytime something new pops on listal page "resently added" then it posts the same time on facebook.
Then other people both can se what i have watched and they will see listal often.
not show only top rated but show resently added.
Hoping for that...

what i mean is this seccion:
Update my facebook news feed when:
when I add a review
when I publish a list
when I add a image
when I add a video
when I vote for a image
when I vote for a video
when I vote for a list
when I vote for a review
Simply add:
"When i add a movie to watched"
"When i add a book to read"

Like the site mubi.com/ and www.hellomovies.com/ does when you vote or add movies to a list.
But a simple way would be the facebook box add like iMDB has now =)

I can't seem to link to my Facebook account unless I log completely out of my Listal account. Once I do that, there doesn't seem to be a way for an existing member to sign back in.
Every time I click on the "Existing members log in here" it takes me back to the "create account" page. I feel like I'm missing a step, somewhere... :) Help?
::Edit::
So, after posting this, I went to one of my lists, clicked on the "Share on Facebook" button at the bottom and it redirected me to the App sign-in. I'm now successfully logged into both accounts. I guess I'll leave this up in case someone else needs it, though. Thanks!
