Evaluating movies that aren't seen until the end...

Villiana 11 years, 3 months ago at Jan 15 8:24 -
I have a question... Do you happen not to see the movie to the end? Recently happens to me more often. Sometimes a movie is so boring, or uninteresting that I just turn off, so as not to waste time. How to evaluate then a movie? For a half stars? Do not judge at all?

It happens to me, too. I don't rate them.

I agree. If you don't watch the movie until the end, you shouldn't rate it.

I don't rate movies that I was just bored with, or that I couldn't finish for some other reason, but I rated some movies I stopped watching because they were really, truly awful. I don't think any movie that bad can redeem itself later on. After all, the movie was completed by the same team of people who thought the awful first part was good enough.

Totally with shini on this one

If half the film was awful to the point of compelling me to shut it off, what redeeming factors could possibly be found later on

I think it depends on the level of accuracy you are trying to achieve. A Very Bad rating in the first half of the movie is rarely going to change to Excellent in the second half, but it could turn out to be just Plain Bad after all, not Very! :)

the movie can be bad but watching a film is like accepting a challenge if you even consider to give films ratings it's ethical to watch the hole thing even if it's something like the dragonball adaptation to screen

Thank You all for your answers. I try not to judge. It is possible that the 'end' of the film would have been better, but I didn't give advice to survive. Sometimes I have the impression that the film is not in my taste, and I wish to put a negative rating, but I don't want to falsify the ranking.

Let me put it this way: If I trust someone's judgment, I am interested in knowing if he or she rated the movie as a total fiasco, even if they fell asleep shortly before the end! :D

Its so rare for me to NOT watch a film all the way through that I actually lambast any film that I cannot even endure watching

www.listal.com/movie/begotten This is the worst film I have attempted to see...I gave it a chance I found it awful - why should I continue? If you are eating something and it tastes like shit you hardly carry on

If someone suggests or rates a film high but mentions that most of the payoff is at the end then it is worth bearing it out

Yeah, I'm with xxixii on this one: why should I continue? For me, watching a film is NOT like accepting a challenge. Watching a movie can be a learning experience or an emotional one, or just sheer entertainment, but it is not challenging per se. I'd make exceptions for movies that are particularly gruesome/nausea-inducing/assault-on-the-senses or the like, but that's different from having the patience to finish a movie (the key factor there is to even start on them, IMO - such movies don't normally sneak up on you like bad/boring movies can).

Ok, yeah, it took me 3 attempts/sessions to finish "Titanic" and it sure seemed a lot like running a marathon, uphill both ways, in the snow, but it mainly involved sitting in a chair with my eyes open and not letting my mind tune out when faced with boredom. When the end credits rolled, I felt relieved that it was finally over, but there was no sense of accomplishment.

Side note: Just the tags for Begotten are enough to turn me off (though "Quivering Man Child"? I can't even :D). You, dear sir/lady, are a brave soul.
