Duplicate Profile Names

I've noticed that actors that have common names, for instance Pat O'Brien, are credited as one person when there are in fact more than one or several. On the site the same Pat O'Brien that was in Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) is also credited with Big Fat Liar (2002) for another Pat O'Brien and all of his movies as well. I've noticed this also with Mark Strong. Is there not a way of having other actor profile names with identical names the way IMDb does, with Roman numerals?

Unfortuantly it doesn't distinguish between identical names yet. This is on my list to fix after the profile merges are complete.

Merging profiles is something that has been highly requested. So, I believe that is the primary focus right now.

Thank you for looking into this. I do have another one and that is with the movie Paris Trout (1991). I believe it was originally released on cable TV then got a theatrical release, or maybe none at all. But on the site it is both in the Movie section and the TV section. I have seen it and I can assure you that it is the same movie. This may have happened with other titles.

Well I can't seem to find a link for it but for whatever reason now it only appears in my TV items of his and the movie section. No big deal then I guess.

Are these profile merges not yet complete? Because I just found singer George Michael appearing in at least two movies as a TV Sportscaster. That has to be a duplicate.

Here is another one... Richard Thomas, actor from The Waltons is credited with films that came out before he was born.

Just wanted to note that there are two entries for Certified Copy on the site.

Yet another... Michael Gough the British actor who recently passed away is credited with all of Michael Gough's (voice actor) movies.

There are lots of them unfortunately because it doesn't distinguish between actors with the same name yet.

Yes I know but I am just trying to point out as many as I can find. Does that help for when you do complete the profile merges?

Ah sorry reading the thread again I see that was already mentioned by jaytoast. Most of the names will be able to split automatically, others may have to be edited by using the existing edit function on item pages.

Well regardless, here is another one and it's messy. All of the actors named Jim Davis, there are many and probably even the writer of Garfield, have all their movies bunched in with the Jim Davis famous for playing Jock on Dallas.
