Duplicate image?

SchwarzerAbt 12 years, 1 month ago at Mar 20 14:38 -
An image I uploaded got deleted because it was a duplicate, although it had a higher resolution and better colour quality. Although the latter is not an objective criterion, the resolution is.

Why is it possible that a larger picture gets deleted?

These are the images:
mine
The one that was kept

Cropped?

What The O.P. said. If yours is cropped it will be the one deleted, even if it's bigger overall.

Well, only a small part at the bottom is missing.
See for yourselves:

It doesn't matter how much is cropped; it's still a crop. Whole images always take priority.

Yeah, its a automated thing, so don't take it personally lol. It was the machines that done it!

It actually wasn't a machine. The automated system can only recognize duplicates if they are exactly the same (size, resolution, uncropped etc.) and from the same source.

It was manually deleted because that's the rules. Unless uncropped version is ridiculously small (like thumbnail size), the cropped version will always get deleted over the cropped when there are duplicates.

One of my images got deleted. It was the cover of the PAL edition of the game The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and it is considered as a duplicate of the cover of the US edition.

I know that the two images are almost identical in their appearance and according to the rules "No images which are extremely similar to each other" are allowed but I think that there should be an exception for the covers of different regions/editions of a video game.

If the OP stretches his image and re-uploads it, will you just delete the other one? The lack of appreciation for the difference in resolution is silly, especially when a human specifically looks over it. Bigger images usually aren't better.

As a Listal gamers, I agree. It wouldn't end up cluttering any one game's dedicated image gallery, either, since there are only so many regions - US, EU, JP, AU, and ones that rarely get all but the most mainstream releases like KO.
