Duplicate Artists

While rating some artists in the music section, I've noticed that there are duplicate entries for the same bands due to a slight difference in the group name.

Is there any way this can be fixed as it means I have to rate the same artists twice, the number of items I have from that artist is not an accurate count, and it affects the top "My Artists"

Examples:

www.listal.com/artist/coheed-%26-cambria

This is definately something of a problem. Here's more examples:

It quite difficult to fix but I would like to add a function to merge artists.

Anything that can be done would be great... or at the very least of ratings and stats could be uniform across the two.

Is this still on the agenda? I know we can edit items to link to the correct people pages, but that method isn't exactly the most efficient as it can leave blank person pages floating about which is a waste of space.

Noticed this one which may not seem very important, but it reminded me of the issue ;):

If you edit the items that these people contribute to, so that it's the correct author/artist, can you eliminate the profile altogether?

Just bringing this thread up because I came across it just now. I was going through my artists and came across a duplicate.

Seeing as it's not a very well known artist and no one else had rated or added that artist to their favourites I went through all the cds and edited the artist area so it has The Red Paintings rather then www.listal.com/artist/red-paintings

So what happens with the left over duplicate now that it has no music to go with it? Or should I not have done that?

I've done the same with a few other artists to correct items. It shouldn't be a problem, but'll be worth remembering for if/when we're able to actually merge artists.

Bumping this because I'm wondering if a there is a solution for dealing with duplicate artists.

I notice that it's happening with groups whose names begin with "The" or who have special characters.

Just a few examples:
Bob Marley and the Wailers
Bob Marley & the Wailers

Belle and Sebastian
Belle & Sebastian

The Who
Who

And it's a bit ridiculous that the Beatles are listed twice in the Top Rated section:

Would it be possible to have one of the duplicates redirect to main artist page?

I've noticed this as well, but didn't know if there was any way to fix it besides editing a specific item and correcting the music artist's name.

For example, people have gone and listed Pixies as THE Pixies. It's very aggravating! :/

Bump!

I've been noticing this in the author pages as well. There are pages for both Brian K Vaughan and Brian K. Vaughan! Is there a way to merge pages so there can be alternate spellings of the same page? Maybe something like the movie title system, where there can be more than one title?

I just don't like it when individual members of a band are credited for a group album, then you have them show up high in your count when they've never done anything as a solo project or anything of the sort.
