What do you think of Jennifer Lawrence?

First of all, Please neither hating nor obsessing over it?
But.... why is she getting all that hype at all?
Let's dissect it, shall we?
So why is anyone admired as a celebrity?
Either for talent, beauty, or public persona right?
Well... I just can't see where she fits in any of them really!
Beauty: She is not by any means above average, and honestly I just can't believe people think otherwise just because the media says so ...
And No I am not saying she is fat by any means, actually her body is in really good shape most of the time, and I think it's the good thing in her looks ( tall, toned with a bit of breast and hips) but other than her body she is not so 'WOW' you know? so the whole ( hottest, most desirable lists just seems crazy to me, but oh well... they are mostly just popularity contests anyways) ..
She is a completely different person with Photoshop and still not so 'wow'ish ( and yes of course everyone is Photoshopped in magazines but most of them still look above average without it)Point is if I saw her in the street I wouldn't look at her twice or maybe even at all..
Talent: Most undeserving Oscar in the history of the academy ( had she won for Winter Bones it would have been so much better than this)
In The Hunger Games, I though she was not that good either( she was too aware of how she moves and talks and it just seemed forced and looked like she was really trying ..
So for me I don't think she is necessarily a HORRIBLE actress , but also not so good, she is sometimes unbearable to watch
So in talent she is barely a mediocre actress that if she is in a great movie wouldn't harm it so much, but if in an alright movie might be its weakest link, so I don't think that she can hold a movie alone, but maybe big ensemble movies or a supporting role or a sitcom ...
Personality ( The one we see anyway ) : The thing that most people find appealing about her, Seriously ?!!
She has the most fake ( and yes I am aware that most celebrities do but hers is just too oblivious, if you are going to fake it at least make it good), phony, rude, arrogant personalities I have ever seen ...
I am not realy hating her nor having a grudge or jealous but it sadens me when someone without any of 'the qualifications' having all credit just to create a new 'it' in hollywood while there are many talents that aren't having that because they are considered older or because they have an accent, or because they don't know anyone famous or whatever silly reason ..
Please, do give me your opinion whether you like her or not as I would really like to discuss this with other people...

seriously she would have NOT been chosen if she was average or below...Hollywood doesn't really work that way- its rare to see an average looker and even rarer to see a genuinely ugly person - PEOPLE LIKE TO WATCH GOOD LOOKING PPEOPLE

I agree with you Mera. Iwas thinking the exact thing and I don't get the hype either. I appreciate her like I think it is quite a thing to make such name in industry while being so young but when it comes to talent, I think she is over-rated.

I disagree with everything negative thing that has been said. Look at some of the big stars of the past forty or fifty years. Robert Deniro was 30 when he made his first film with Scorsese and got his big break. Meryl Streep was also 30 when she scored her first Oscar nomination for The Deer Hunter. To put age into perspective Jennifer Lawrence is now the same age as Julia Roberts was when she scored her first nomination for Steel Magnolia's in 1990, but Lawrence is already looking at her third nomination and possibly second win in a row. She was 20 years old when she scored her first nomination, and is looking to score her third nomination in 4 years. I'd say that she is quite talented.
As a fan of cinema, looks and personality shouldn't factor into her fame. She is undeniably talented and has made a major impression on filmmakers in her first 5 years of being in the spotlight. However, if we want to discuss her looks and personality I think she has a perfect balance of the two. She is good looking, stunning at times (Everyone has their good and bad moments). She is open when talking in interviews and doesn't shy away from saying what she feels and talking about these others would find weird. I like her, she is young, smart, talented and beautiful. If I was making a film (which I hope to one day do) I would easily want her in my cast.

Looks always factor into cinematic popularity and that's part of her appeal. I find her pretty but not beautiful; she's got a bit of a butterface. I can think of dozens of actresses in the business right now that are more attractive.
She's a decent actress but I find her average (talent-wise). I've only seen her in three movies though: X-men: First Class, The Hunger Games and House at the End of the Street. As far as her accumulating awards from the vaunted Academy, that doesn't hold much salt with me. I find half of their picks laughable, especially when you consider the plethora of films and performances that they disregard every year.
So, yeah, she's decent and easy on the eyes but nothing exceptional to me. Yet I can see where a legion of youthful moviegoers would find her appealing.

Completely disagree. She's one of the most refreshing new actresses in many years. I believe she looks absolutely stunning, all though I'm not quite positive about her cutting her hair short. But with long hair, she's gorgeously natural. Which is in my eyes true beauty.
I do also think that's she's extremely talented. Her performance in Silver Linings Playbook is outstanding. It's extremely easy to take a role of someone with a minor mental illness and turn it into an over-the-top look-at-me extravaganza. But she manages to walk that very thin line perfectly, and delivers a very balanced performance to character that's not balanced. That's a very difficult task, and she does so perfectly. Not to mention that her performances goes through every possible emotion there is, from anger and sorrow to love and care.
And I'm struggling to understand why someone can't find her work in The Hunger Games or Winter's Bone to be anything but impressive. The Hunger Games wouldn't be half as good if the role were given to anyone else.
I don't see anything "fake" with her personality? If anything, she has the most natural, real, relaxed and cool personality in Hollywood. She comes of as an extremely honest person.

I do not judge actresses by their looks. If I did then I would be arguing and defending such untalented people like Jessica Alba and Megan Fox. But I disagree that she's not hot. She is smoking hot, if not she wouldn't be sold as the sex symbol they have turned her into.
She is pretty but I have not seen any of her movies so I can't judge her true acting abilities.

Jlaw is quite overrated in the acting department, but if we are talking about her looks she's damn fine! boobs, face, etc and not following the typical standards of beauty.

I don't think she's as good an actress as the hype would suggest. But I find her "look at me, aren't I goofy" shtick in interviews intolerable.

You want to talk overrated, look no further than Marilyn Monroe.
Oh yes I did just go that far. No one ever wants to admit that she was a shitty actress in most of her movies, to the point most people could easily see it until she died and rose to saint hood like everyone does. And of course no one can say it about her without a bunch of people pissing their pants over it.
If you want to talk about someone that was mostly jack off material, there you go. And of course all her style has been copied and mimicked by every other big sex symbol after her, but fact is when you look back at her movies, she was a bad actress in most of them. No where near on par with how much praise she receives just for having a great ass and big boobs. Had she not got her tits out at the height of her career, no one would even remember her today.
After seeing Jennifer Lawrence on screen, I don't find her that bad of an actress. The original post here is total nonsense. At the very end she even says "I'm not hating but". You know when someone puts that "but" in there, they are going to tell you how much they hate somebody or something.
If you want to talk about rude and arrogant celebrities, you could make a list miles fucking long of unlikable people. They think they are on Mount Olympus and can do whatever they want, that's nothing new. Western society and the first world in general worships celebrities, this is nothing new since most people don't know how to love themselves to give a damn about their fellow man. Why people look up to these celebrities in the first place and worship them and idolize them has always boggled my mind, but it's went on for centuries - the Romans did it too, and if anything America is the modern day Roman Empire in all it's bloody glory, and most people seem to know that outside the country. At the end of the day they are men and women, and they are not Gods. They eat, they sleep, they fuck, end of story, they are not perfect beings even though mass media makes them out to be.
