Delete Random Chat

I am. I think a 'New Introductions' or 'Listal Rookies' or 'Listal Help' or something to that effect would be much more fruitful. And only members that rate/review items (get a certain # of points) can venture out into the other groups.

and p.s. last night was too much in RC. at least 3 separate users making a half dozen new threads each with sole purpose to piss of Listal and myself (they even said so in the postings).

Listal Help definitely. Introductions should be contained (no points) as you will get a shit load of 'Hi' 'hihi' etc. But Listal Rookies just sounds like a place they can convert.

Remember what happened to Anime? Its salvaged now but the battle scars remain. If anything it should be deleted aswell, making it a specific forum makes them think that Narugay and Bleach Drinker are what they are here for.

All those Anime kids just go to RC anyway. How many of their threads have you had to move Prelude? They just can't understand anything. You write more than 4 words and they don't read it!!

On a side note, if 'Creative Corner' ever comes about I think it should be postponed or delayed. That kind of area is for 'free expression' and they'll take it on the best they can!

count me in too. it's getting tedious and i'm afraid some of the motivated new users who contribute good content will get scared of the outright nonsense that is going on in the groups. i like Prelude's input with a help section in the group so new users get some information about the first steps in listal, an FAQ etc., of course guided by one or more competent mods.

i'd really like to hear tom's opinion on this, because this thread is by far not the only one regarding this pending problem.

For people who don't venture into Random Chat, let me explain something, just so no one feels we are bashing kids just for being kids.

The majority of these kids all know each other (they go to same school). This has been confirmed to me by several of these kids, and evident in many of their posts. I've even had to joy of deleting a 'I'll kick your ass after school, Jeff!!!' thread. Also, they seem to only post during school hours and in evenings from their homes.

What's wrong with their threads? Other then the complete lack of respect to other members and pointless unintelligible internet slang, vast majority of their threads are of the 'I'm Bored', 'Who's on right now?', or 'My GF left me and I am going to kill myself' categories. In other words, absolutely ZERO contribution to Listal whatsoever. They call each other niggaz, they talk about rape, suicide, being ground, homework, sex, and suicide some more.

So why are they on Listal? Very simple... we've allowed it for too long. And now that I've clamped down on it hard, I getting frequent 'fuck off whore!' messages, swearing at me that why am I taking away their 'freedom' (viva la revolucion! i suppose) and one 11 year old kid even talked like a nigga from da hood saying i better watch out or my kids will get popped. YES, its THAT BAD. Just because I delete the threads and take the abusive PMs doesnt mean its all rosy now. And read thru their threads, it is my strong belief that the ONLY reason they are on Listal is because MySpace, MSN, and other popular forums are blocked in their schools, or by their parents, and other forum websites are moderated. But listal has had a free-for-all Random Chat anything goes mentality for so long that unless we remove it altogether, next option is to get an army of mods and go gestapo on them. I honestly am getting tired of deleting over a dozen threads EACH DAY from Random Chat area alone.

Probably the best read since the magna carta there. Its important that people know these things; that its not just kid bashing. I get PM'd constantly from idiot children asking me 'Why cant we just have fun??!', 'You're a boring old woman, I hope you die alone'. Granted they make me laugh but still.

I'm all for it. Of late I have to admit I've been looking around for other catelogueing websites; to see what they have to offer. If I hadnt put so much time and effort (and didnt feel a strange loyalty to the site) I'd have strayed by now.

You've put it succinctly; make more mods to police the crisis or make less crisis to mod.

There are some genuine Poets, Song Writers, Artists, Designers and Screenwriters on this website but have all been shunned by the amount of stuff that gets posted and passed off as their own work or interesting.

When there is a section for it, they will come forward.

The main reason I left the random chat is because I have been planning to restore the original groups system and convert it into a custom created group, the other reason was that the forum was pretty dead before (and it was nice that at least some people were using them)

I don't see any problem in having a less serious forum in addition to a main general one, a lot of forums do this. The problem is not the name of the forum it's the quality of the posts in it.

Since I'm probably not going to create the new groups system for a while I am prepared to take more serious action, maybe it would be good to close the forum and open it as another name, maybe it would also be good to restrict the forums to 16+.

@tom: to what effect? how do you plan to verify the true age of members?

I don't think I will do any age restriction because as Bael pointed out it's impossible to verify.

You might aswell put one in anyway Tom. It stops those new young members from signing up.

I have tried redirecting them though I doubt it will have much affect, a 4 word post makes their brains go on overload(Most of them)

... The chat window in my forum does wonders to keep stupid posts to a minimum, I still need random chat so they don't start leaking stupid, but the chat box reduces the stress on the RC forum

If you can add a chat window, that may help

or maybe a music window where they can play classical or something and play them while they browse, it may make them think a bit clearer..

This thread is way off topic because of VV, but from what I understand, we've allowed it to become like this, and now there's no going back.

Tom, do you remember how bad it was when there were individual user-created groups? Sure, I liked it better that way, but don't you recall how stupid people made entire GROUPS just to discuss what they thought of one song?

My point: Tom, if you're going to revert to the previous layout, which I would love, you are definitely going to need to strictly enforce rules; the key words being "definitely" and "strictly", and "enforce" of course. And you've done a good job so far, but you can't just up it a little more, you're going to have to completely revamp it. You're going to need to add more mods, maybe make it a little harder to create groups, and actively defend Listal. Because if you don't I might just leave again. That's what made me leave the first time. When I came back, since the groups had changed, I stuck around. But let's not take 1 step forward, and 2 steps back, shall we?
