David Tennant leaving "Doctor Who"

I've been a big fan of the latest incarnation of television show Doctor Who on BBC America. Sadly, David Tennant, the actor who plays the current (10th) Doctor is leaving the show before the next series airs in 2010.

Anyone here on Listal a fan of the show? Did you like Tennant and his companions? Any thoughts on who the new Doctor should be?

Over on Slashdot I've heard Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson, and Patrick Stewart's names mentioned as possible replacements and I think any of them could make a legitimate go of it.

Missing David Tennant, but Matt Smith is doing a good job. That said I don't like the new Dr Who and its made for America format. Did you see the iwo jima flag raising moment in Victory of the Daleks? I almost threw up!

Yeah, Victory of the Daleks was a weak episode all around, IMO. Aside from that, I've been more or less enjoying series 5. Vincent and the Doctor was a nice change of pace, and The Lodger was quite funny. Really looking forward to the finale. Smith is a brilliant Doctor and Amy is... well, nice to look at, anyway.
