Daniel Craig - James Bond?

karenlyn 17 years, 7 months ago at Oct 4 7:02 -
Okay, the new James Bond movie is coming out soon, and I was wondering how everybody out there feels about the choice of Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Doesn't he look more like a bad guy than a Bond?

I agree. I think that he's a very capable actor and I loved him in Layer Cake, but there's something about his eyes and face that makes him seem like the perfect Bond villain.

I hadn't thought of Daniel Craig as looking more of a villain, but now that you have mentioned it, he does have more of a 'bad guy' look to him. I am interested in seeing the film and how Craig does in this role, I'm such a fan of Bond films, I sincerely hope it does well.

I don't understand why they didn't go with Clive Owen. There were rumours that they were considering him, and I think he would have made a fantastic Bond.

I'll going to give Daniel Craig a chance.

I think he was a terrible choice, just because of the way he looks. He looks as much like Bond to me as Chris Farley. Of course that's an exaggeration. Even though I'm not a big of Craig as Bond I still think he'll do a great job.

I was skeptical of Daniel Craig at first but after seeing him in "Munich" I now have complete faith in him to pull off the role of 007.

Though I'll have to reserve judgement for when I've seen the film, I think he's a brilliant choice. From what I gather, they want to do a darker, grittier Bond, and I reckon Craig's well suited to that. In a way that, say, Roger Moore wouldn't have been. The book showed a newly-promoted Bond on his first mission, and he was rather different to the Bond portrayed in later books - although it showed how him becoming that way. All the indications are that the film is going to be very much in keeping with the book's spirit.

Frankly, I think we need a Bond who's a bit darker, and, frankly, a little bit scary, as the suave womaniser is a bit lacklustre and one-dimensional now. The trailers make this Bond look as though there's something not quite right about him, and I really hope that is an accurate reflection of his character throughout the film; give us a Bond with a more dangerous edge! That seems to be what they're trying to do, and a few of the comments on this thread, and elsewhere, seem to suggest they may have got it right - and show that Daniel Craig is indeed the right chap to do it.

I agree, Craig I think will make an amazing 'new and edgy' James Bond. They are purposefully trying to get away from this 'perfect chiseled cheeks' pretty boy image that all the others James Bond (except Connery) have been. Come on, he jumps from airplanes, wrestles down bad guys, always takes a beating falling down cliffs and what not, so I think Daniel Craig is perfect choice for 'rough around edges' look.

I loved him in Layer Cake and Munich. The only thing that worries me was in Layer Cake, when he put on the spy outfit to sneak up on the criminal bosse's house, he looked like such a rookie and his outfit (especially the mask) made him look like a cheeseball. I hope they refined his 'spy' outfit for the Bond series. LOL.

Quite frankly, I dont know what the comotion is about. "he's balding, too rough looking". So was Connery, the best Bond ever. "he's blond!". So was Roger Moore, in case everyone forgot by now. "he looks like a bad guy, they should've gone with Clive Owen." Ugh, Owen puts out a 'bad guy' vibe a lot more than Craig. Ever seen The Inside Man? or Sin City? Well, in Sin City, he wasn't a bad guy, but he definately put off that vibe. But Craig, even as we was somewhat of a baddy in Layer Cake, he still pulled off a womanizing sophisticated look (if there is such a look).

What I don't get, though, if Casino Royale is supposed to be a prequel to all the other films, how come Judi Dench is in it as M?

I supposed it is a true prequel, as it was Ian Fleming's first book, but none of the other Bond films were in chronological order, so I think its safe to make Casino Royale, even though it was book 1, but set the timeline to occur AFTER all the other bond flicks, that way Bond can use latest 21st century gadgetry as well as us Judi Dench as the new M.

Movies were in this order: Dr No, Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, Casino Royale (not a real Bond movie, more of a spoof), You Only Live Twice, etc...

Books were in this order: Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds are Forever, Russia with Love, Dr. No, Golfinger, For Your Eyes Only, Thunderball, Spy Who Loved Me, etc...

hmmm, just read outline for Casino Royale, and it deals with how Bond got his '00' status and went on his first mission.

Ok, i see your point. I don't know HOW they could write Judi into the role of M then. Maybe they had a contract with her, no matter what, she'd have 'x' roles as M on future bond flicks? kinda lame, I agree.

Despite the chronolgy issue, I am glad Judi's back, though - she's a nice foil to the sexist Bond :-) Thinking about it, if anyone was really all that bothered and wanted to make sense of this, I reckon they could - in her "first" story, GoldenEye, they clearly know each other, and Bond has some idea of how she works. So perhaps she was his boss early on his career (as verified now in Casino Royale), left for some as yet undisclosed reason, and came back when the "proper" M retired.

And I so wish the film itself was in black and white - the trailer looks magnificent!

After seeing all 3 I can gladly say Daniel Craig is a brutal but great choice for James Bond.

Craig is, easily, right behind Connery for my favorite Bond. The guy is perfect for the role. With only the first watch of Casino Royale, he catapulted himself ahead of Brosnan and right behind Connery for me!
