Cowboy Bebop

I caught a couple of episodes of Cowboy Bebop the other day and I wondered if it was worth watching the whole series. The only anime series I've ever really enjoyed is Hellsing. I've tried other series' such as Neon Genesis and Full Metal Alchemist, but only really half got into NGE. I think I definitely prefer 90's animation over current animation - that's why I didn't really like FMA. I also despise the Ghost in the Shell: SAC series that's going around.
Is Cowboy Bebop a top notch anime series that may rival the mighty Hellsing?
P.S I posted this in TV shows instead of anime because I wanted more intelligent input. If you're 14 years old or under, please don't respond.

YES.
It's one of my favorites anyway. Try watching the movie first. If you like the movie then chances are you'll like the series since the movie is basically an extended Cowboy Bebop episode. Which is not a bad thing. (far from it)

Is the movie supposed to come before the anime series? Which should I track down first for continuities sake?

Chronologically it happens between 22 and 23 according to wikipedia.
But it was made AFTER the end of the series.
You wouldn't really be spoiling anything if you watch the movie first and it wouldn't be all that confusing. I myself watched the movie before watching the series.

Personally I didn't find Hellsing that great but really, really, really love Bebop.

No way, Uber, you must be trippin'! I'll hunt down the series before going for the film I think. How many episodes are there?

It only ran for one season so uhm... I think 26.
They released a remix edition of it a while back where it got all retouched and stuff so if you are thinking of "hunting" it down I'd say that's the edition you should be looking for.
EDIT: Around February of next year they appear to be releasing the complete Cowboy Bebop Remix DVD collection for about $50 retail price so I'd just wait for that one to come out if I were you.

I've seen a couple episodes of this series that I've really liked. Without cable I never got to enjoy the whole thing, so DVD set here I come. The ending was also ruined for me upon a query of mine as to the short length of the series. I wouldn't like to ruin it for others, so I'll just say metaphorically that it regards the unsharpening of a protagonist. I haven't seen the end, so I can't be all-too sure that's a good metaphor.

Unsharpening of a protaganist... I never heard that one before. @_@
But I like to think that the ending only makes it that much more endearing.

You can also try getting the Cowboy Bebop set from my preferred dealer. No shipping if you're willing to wait 5-10 business days.

I'm not sure what region that set is, but if it was free to ship to merry old England I'd be interested! I think I'll give it a blast from a few downloads to start off with before taking the plunge. Thanks for your help guys.

Ah!!! These are all Region 1. And I'm not sure if Deepdiscount ships free outside of the US. @_@

Aw, crap. You guys'd have to pay $8.95 for international shipping. I don't know if that's worse than Amazon, but if you find a deal and the site's noteworthy (DeepDiscount is pretty trustworthy, despite the occasional delay) than take it. We Americans are selfish bastards.

I wonder if it really is legit or a bootleg like mine are...?

Jeeze! I really put that shady, didn't I? Er, don't worry. Just meet me in a dark ally, and.. I'll explain.. How legit.. my 'dealer' is..

No some sites I've seen say that it's the legal 6 disc version and ends up either a 3 disc version (while is a cool tri-fold case) or cheap copies of the real thing.
