Country specific books and authors

Are there any countries that you watch out for when book buying? (Please, no manga. I love it but if this place gets invaded by it I'll scream.)

I really like my Scottish books, but since I live here that may be a little biased. ;) Authors I always look out for are Irvine Welsh and Iain Banks, although I now own all of their novels except for their newest ones (new books are too expensive) and I haven't had the urge to buy the latter's science fiction books yet. I have also taken a liking to Alasdair Gray's Lanark which was a nice mixture of genres and I'm keeping a look out for good deals on his other books. I think I like these because I know the places they are set at least geographically and it that makes them so much easier to get into.

I also keep an eye out for interesting Asian fiction, most usually Japanese and Chinese (in English though) since I love finding out about the countries and cultures.

I wouldn't say there are countries I actually look out for... I don't think. Hmm... I do love books based around Ireland, Britain, Egypt, Japan and Scotland. I just scanned my books and realised I have a few translated ones. French and Russian. I guess I really don't watch out for any countries when it comes to books but maybe it just has to intrigue me enough.
I do like reading biographies about people from Eastern and Arab countries though. It helps me learn I reckon!

In saying all that I'm always up for suggestions about 'foreign' authors.

The biographies/memoirs/etc. from Eastern countries is definitely something I look out for. Wild Swans by Jung Chang and The Good Women of China by Xinran are two wonderful books, in my opinion. :)

I'll admit to buying Malcolm Pryce's "Aberystwyth" series purely because I've lived here for 5 years now (unfortunately graduate this summer though), but other than that I just buy stuff that looks interesting and/or is recommended to me.
