Countries you've visited

Mickey Mickenson 15 years, 11 months ago at Jun 9 23:20 -
This shouldn't be that hard. Just make a list of all the countries you have visited.

I have visited following countries:

Finland (!)
Sweden
Denmark
Estonia
France
Luxemburg
Germany
Spain (Gran Canaria)

Never been out of Europe...
silent killer 15 years, 11 months ago at Jun 10 2:56 -
Mexico. Hardly ever been out of California, really.

I have however driven cross-crountry. Everything after New Mexico sucks; drive-wise atleast. About every 30 miles or so there's a state trooper parked, waiting for you.

Outside of the US, I've only ever been to Mexico and Spain. :/

the USA
the Philippines
Canada
the Bahamas
France
China (Well technically just Hong Kong when it was still not part of China)

I've been to Japan on two stop-over flights but I don't think that counts since it was only for a few hours at a time.

So I've been to more than some and less than some. But then again the USA doesn't have as many countries in close proximity as Europe does.

@chibiyusa: well i think traveling isn't just about distance. i know many people in Europe that haven't seen much more than their hometown, let alone left their country for all their life, despite having many countries in "close" (which is quite relative i think; 1000 miles may not be much for the average us citizen, but for a swiss for instance it's like a world tour) proximity. i think the same applies to the USA.
Cuomi 15 years, 11 months ago at Jun 10 19:33 -
Not so many

Finland(duh)
Sweden
Denmark
Germany
Estonia
United Kingdom

Though I will go to Manhattan in a couple of weeks.
nimimerkillinen 15 years, 11 months ago at Jun 10 20:11 -
Some of the places I've visited plenty of times.

Finland
Sweden
Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Denmark
England
Germany
Belgium
Holland
France
Spain
Portugal
Italy
Greece
Poland
Canada
USA (+Hawaiji)
Thailand
Egypt
India

+ visited
Rome
Monaco
Gibraltar

Places to go next:
Russian - Mongolia - China - Japan and some other places. ~ 2 months
East-Europe: Czech - Poland - Ukraine. At least 2 weeks or 4 if I'll go South-Europe to do some resting in some neverheard town in South-France...

Some day:
Tibet or Nepal: At least a month of solitude
Northeast Asia: Before all of it is ruined.

I don't like cars. I don't need a large apartment for many years, or perhaps ever. I don't buy any expensive clothes. I don't eat nor drink too pricey. I don't want to rot in one place. I travel.
spiegel 15 years, 11 months ago at Jun 10 23:19 -
Canada
USA
Mexico
Austria
Germany
Switzerland
France

Iโ€™ve also spent a grand total of 15 hours in London.

Like chibiyusa said there's not many countries 'round these North American parts. That said, I've done a reasonable amount of travelling in Europe, and I plan to go backpacking there once I'm finished university.

@Bael: Well there's lots of people like that in the USA who haven't even left their state. I just think that people who are more inclined to visit other countries have an easier time perhaps in places such as Europe. A place I myself would love to go to more often in the future. Heck, I'd go around the world if I could :D

I've been to a great number of states here in the US (some are like visiting another country...), but haven't traveled near as much as any of you.

How do you all - with the exception of nimimerkillinen, he already explained his situation - afford to travel so often and to so many places?! Sometimes I can hardly pay all my bills, let alone have enough money to leave North America! :P

well, don't forget old farts like me have had plenty of lifetime to see some places younger folks didn't have the opportunity to see yet (the more impressive is nimimerkillinen's travel experience), although i'm by far not as widely travelled as i'd like to or as other people are.

also, with age comes money, and well paid jobs. hopefully ;). but at the end it's like nimimerkillinen said: you have to choose your priorities. as average joe you seldom can have a nice house AND a nice car AND money on the bank AND (educated) children AND trips around the world. normally you'd have to pass on something. in my case - for instance - it's the car, which i have, but isn't something fancy at all.

I've been in:
Finland (surprise)
England

Yes. I'm from Finland and I've never been in Estonia, Russia or Sweden.
nimimerkillinen 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 21 0:39 -
I'm doing a small roadtrip trough Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Poland. Any suggestions for some lesser known towns & places. The more bizzare or authentic the place is, the better.

Really few. I'd like to travel more though.

Finland

Wow, you Fins certainly travel! ;p
silent killer 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 23 2:15 -
Living in Europe is like cheating if you want to travel somewhere different. If I want to travel Europe, first I have to cross roughly three thousand miles, then an ocean, then a small channel.

You do have a point, Silent Killer. As it was mentioned earlier in the thread, it's got to be pretty easy to travel to several different countries within a smaller landmass, and without much difficulty, especially in Europe.

Why not start a thread now for the countries we'd all like to visit? :)

The Finns only travel a lot to try and find a reasonably priced drink!

My globe roaming tally is pretty pathetic:

England
Wales *groan*
Scotland
France
Spain
Portugal
Italy (just passing through)
Slovenia
Czech Republic
Cyprus
Thailand

That's a whole one time that I've ever left Europe. Oh yeah, on the way to Thailand I had to stop at an airport in Qatar. If ever an airport needed a pub it's that one. A grim desert wasteland!
nimimerkillinen 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 23 10:19 -
0.78โ‚ฌ isn't too much for 0,33 beer IMO. We've got also 2โ‚ฌ 0.5l ranged bar's here.

well, the fins i've been drinking with, certainly enjoyed the cheap (and very good) beer in Austria ;). the only problem is, that they are tilt after just 2 beers hehe.

@Grand Assault: do Scotland and Wales count as separate countries? i've been in one quite good pub (beerwise, otherwise it was way too sterile) in the grim desert airport of Dubai, which is strange enough for a muslim country ;).

@350125g0: nothing more than cheap excuses. if i were in the USA, i'd have at least visited whole of South America and the Pacific region ;). this is something that is really expensive for us Europeans. but with most US-citizens (i read something about two third) not even possessing a passport, it's no wonder they only know US-states ;).
nimimerkillinen 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 23 10:59 -
Bael, thats odd. When I have money and feel like drinking, I usually buy 24-pack of beer. It isn't enough most of times because I like to start early.

Perhaps it is a cheap excuse, but I personally don't have the money to travel outside of the US at the moment, especially with the way the economy is. The prices for flights to most countries are pretty pricey right now, not to mention the price of essentials such as lodging, food and transportation within a country. If I wanted to travel the continent, even considering the price of fuel, my options are pretty much limited to other states, Canada and Mexico... Woot.

I think it's a ploy by the American government to keep its citizens contained within, but that's another conspiracy story for another day. ;)
silent killer 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 23 23:31 -
Well, they do tell us to buy American.
Also, ironically enough, I don't have enough money for a passport. Much less having enough for traveling.

how much does a passport in the USA cost?? passports in Europe are maybe in the range of 100 US$ - 400 US$, depending on the issuing country. usually this amount is affordable for the average citizen.
silent killer 15 years, 10 months ago at Jun 24 20:35 -
its about a $130. But I'm poor and have bills for other things I'd rather have.

Sadly, I've only visited the country I was born, raised and currently reside in -- the United States.

I do have dreams of visiting Greece and Ireland someday. Greece, because I have been fascinated with their culture since I was a little girl, especially their history. Ireland, because every picture I've ever seen always shows it as a very green and fertile country and portrays it with such beauty.
