I mean the both sort:
- the history with myths and legends like you said (with the Han's Empire, Qi's Empire)
- and contempory books which talk about censure, revolution, etc.

Right now I'm reading something called "The City Trilogy" by
Chang Hsi-Kuo (translated into English by John Balcom). It's comprised of three books. "Five Jade Disks", "Defenders of Dragon City", and "Tale of a Feather".

Unfortunatly, Chang Hsi-Kuo isn't Chinese. He's Taiwanese. But it's a start. And it is SF as well.

I've read a few novels and some memoirs by Chinese authors. I was impressed by One Man's Bible by Gao Xingjian. I also liked books by Anchee Min and Hong Ying.
