A finnish melodic metal band? huh.. no wonder one has to look them up. coz they're that famous ;)

on a related note, i thought metal died in the early 80s. didnt realize it simply moved to finland. very informative indeed :)
Tuck 15 years, 7 months ago at Oct 28 18:00 -
Thats actually pretty funny, but metal's still alive and kicking and there's a lot of metal bands still stateside they're just heavier than any '80s stuff
Tuck 15 years, 7 months ago at Oct 28 18:01 -
And they are pretty popular in the metal community

Actually, they seem to be pretty popular in Listal as well. Kind shocked me how many have them added as their favorites.

Childre of Bodom is pretty huge worldwide. Too bad they suck. They are the kind of band when you listen to when you are 11-15 yrs old and then you get over it. Alexi Laiho is just an obnoxious twat who can play guitar. Metal died in the 80s? Metal might be the largest genre at the moment with tons of subgenres. Majority of metal is crap but there are tons of gems if you have time to find out.
Tuck 15 years, 7 months ago at Oct 28 18:32 -
Well, nimimerkillinen, do you like dave mustaine cause he's the biggest asshole in metal but theres no denying he's a phenominal guitarist, people can be great musicians but also be a failure of a person, you cant just say a band sucks because you dont like their style or you dont like the kind of people they are, do you see what i'm getting at?
nimimerkillinen 15 years, 7 months ago at Oct 28 18:37 -
You asked our opinions of band and Alexi Laiho. I just told you both of them. If someone is good guitarist. It doesn't mean that he makes good music. Childre of Bodom has this ridiculous over-melodic style with a big commercial touch. They also has this naive badass imago which works for the younger fans. Children of Bodom just lacks of creativity and style. Sorry.
Tuck 15 years, 7 months ago at Oct 28 18:42 -
Thats your view on the point and you have every right to say it, if their not ur style then they arent your style, and im cool with that.

Actually, mainstream Metal did in fact DIE in the late 80s. You're only 20 and you're from a country where metal is still enjoying mainstream popularity. Parts of Europe (Germany mostly) and most of Scandinavia DO love their metal, and even Judas Priest still tours there. But the metal genre that enjoyed MTV popularity in the US did die in the late 80s. Alternative rock and the grunge movement took off to the stratosphere and bands (even the legendary Metallica) where scrambling to change their sound and cut off their long hair just to keep their bands alive.

Then in the early 2000s Nu-Metal sub-genre briefly took off (blend of rap & metal) with Kron, Insane Clown Posse, Slipknot and other such bands, but they too died off as quick as they boomed.

In my part of the world (Toronto area) Hip-Hop, R&B and Alternative Rock are what keeps getting played on airwaves and in bars, and there's also a very popular club scene which varies certain dance-music genres. House music is (and always has been) extremely popular here, and many friends are into subgenres of dance/electronic music like Drum'n'Bass, Tribal House, and such. But I can honestly say I dont know a single person who is INTO any form of metal music, nor do I know any major club or bar that plays metal or has metal cover bands. Its is completely extinct here except for the emo/goth kids and what they may listen to in their parents' basements. :)

Yeah well the usa is one fucked up place lmao, and even though im only fourteen i know a lot about the nineties and grunge, nirvana is one of my favorite bands, and i really like nineties punk, the thing is that a lot of genres that should have died a long time ago are still getting plays on the radio. I think that once a new genre is created it wont really ever die, because there will always be fans who will pass the music down to their children and to the generation after that too. this may seem a little insightful for a 14 year old and an american(cause the world thinks were dumbasses)but thats my opinion. There will always people who like music way past its due.

Actually Prelude sorry but there is one metal band that enjoyed MTV popularity that still does today and was alive in teh 80's. Bring forth Metallica. Their hits go from Master of puppets to sand man to One and now they have a new album with great songs including the day that never comes. They are not the only 80's metal or rock band still going as in fact AC/DC just made a new album called black ice. G and R are coming out with their finall album Chinese Democracy. Realy metal never died. Like old heroes it just faded away. But now it is back and ready to and please pardon me on this but Kick Some Ass!

Actually Ventruss, please don't give me history lessons on metal and rock. I grew up in that era. Metallica lost all respect among their fans for firstly attacking Napster, and secondly cutting off their hair and churning out power ballads. ugh.. When Metallica jumped the shark, that's when Metal in mainstream died. And how dare you mention G'n'R. They died after the success of Use Your Illusions faded, and that new Chinese Democracy album is a fucking joke - i heard it completely already. And how is it even G'n'R without the legendary Slash? And AC/DC? come on now, leave those dinosaurs alone. Their best album is from 1980, and since then, their only other big hit was the song from Last Action Hero, in 1993. They may still be around, but they're a thin shell of their former self.

I'm just waiting for you to tell me that Motley Crue and Skid Row are still big shots ;)

Trust me I love every type of rock(means every type the whole rock genre) and i keep up-to-date with almost everything. I like metal and I have never heard of them and I went and listened to one of their songs and they suck.

Actually, they seem to be pretty popular in Listal as well. Kind shocked me how many have them added as their favorites.

Prelude nice joke only 42 people added them to their favorites.

Actually, 42 people listing it as their fave IS good for listal. Listal doesnt have a huge user base yet.

In fact, Audio Bullys has only one fan (me) and I think they're king shit! hehe
