Episode 1 was slightly above average. The writers don't write crime or portray criminals the best.
There is no fucking way Jesse would have made it out of that room alive. Gus already hated him, he's a major liability in his eyes, AND HE DOESN'T NEED HIM! Not for anything, but to humor Walt's idle threats. If Gus had gone and slit Jesse's throat too or instead how quickly would Walt go back on his little strike?
On the grading scale I'd give the premiere a C+. It'll take them a bit to work up the tension.
