Book May Be Featured In Upcoming Film

Jeremy Smiley 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 27 20:23 -
I recently published Mice City back in Aug 07. Shortly after I was published and my book was in print I recieved word from an Executive that they sent my book to Hollywood to possibly be featured in an upcoming film.

Last week I submitted the sequel, we'll see how that goes. Cheers!

Mice City Is in the childrens genre. I've always been creative when it comes to writing just never pursued it. Listal is a wonderful site, one of the better ones i've been to.

The movie that my book may be featured in is called "State Of Play" Originally Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, but they got out of the roles and Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck step in. Look it up on the Publish America website under "Hollywood calls on PA for childrens books"
samira 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 28 18:21 -
Cool Jeremy! Those are great news! Congratulatons! Is it published in France already? If it is, I'll look it up!
Jeremy Smiley 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 28 19:46 -
It is on amazon.com, I believe this is the fastest way for shipment. Or google my isbn# 142418835o. It is available worlwide mainly on the web.

Dont lead him in, he has no profile information; he's only on here to advertise his bloody book.

Howcome I know the last movie he saw was Waiting with Ryan Reynolds then, hm? Whether you want to look at it as advertising or sharing good news, at least he's making conversation. If his book being a prop in State of Play sparks interest it was never out of aggressive imposition.

EDIT: Confused favorite and last seen movie threads...

GemLil 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 0:35 -
I didnt say or think it was aggressive. You know his last movie because he posted it on a forum. He's not contributed at all!

No lists, no reviews, no ratings.

Thillian stop jumping in with your neautrality every time someone makes a less than neautral point.

You know his last movie because he posted it on a forum.

That's what I'm saying - he's posting in the forum and trying to get to know the community. You're not really making him want to add more to his profile by the way you introducing yourself, either. A little friendliness can motivate someone a ton, and it's deserved since Jeremy really hasn't done anything wrong here. Were he a robot or something you'd have more of a "side" for me to debate against, but his posts have been exclusively for us.

His about me, is about the publishing of his book, his 'about my collections' says:

My book is 48 pages in length, 24 full color picture illustrations. A fun adventure all the while being taught valuable life lessons.

Thats not about his collections, its about his book.

None of his profile information is anything about the man; it seems clear to me its just an excuse to go on about his book. I have a 12,000 word dissertation that I'm quite proud of, maybe I should substitute all my profile info to info about it ?

I'd rather you and your friends from school stop banging a gavel at everyone else on the forum.

From school? what are you talking about. I'm 23 Thillian, I left my school years and years ago and I dont talk to anyone from their anymore. Except one of the girls..who is still my best mate.

I am not banging on a gavel, I hardly ever have a go at anyone whos not spamming in the anime. I've called out Jerry and you. If you find that people are having a go at you, its not my fault. It might be that you're the one constantly butting in on people's threads with your wishy washy opinions.

I made a review about 'The Animal', saying anyone who likes this is an idiot. Those kinds of blase statements are made all the time in reviews, its a literary device; and you storm in with you 'oh you're bias' crap.

If you're so accepting of everyone; why not accept that Im passionate and forthcoming. Its the way I was raised; and I'll tell you its not neautrality that got the mods thing sorted; it was firey rebellion.

Good edit Jeremy; I really do like to read people's 'about me'. See now I can identify with the fact that you're into illustrating; my best friend is an illustrator of childrens books. I'm sorry if I came across as harsh; its just a knee jerk reaction because so many people abuse this site; and I've grown to love it like a prodigal son.

What people dont seem to realise; when they're on here, is that the rating and review is the real key to the social interaction, it lets you see who you are compatable with the most in music, films etc.

You could rate some titles that are like your own book, and find the people who are most compatable with them; thus might be interested in it.

(Between you and me, Tom was already working on the mod codes and in fact announced this before your team stepped in. But shh! Don't tell.)

On any forum with all the general rules in play your replies would be considered flaming for their obvious attack on the threadmaker. In a sense you're right - if I'd been passive a chain of posting wouldn't have started. Then again, someone conversing in a perfectly innocent manner wouldn't have been properly advocated for.

This is pretty obvious spam. A non-contributing member promoting his product. Thread should be deleted. Unless Listal receives a percentage. Why the fuss?

Thilian, you dont seem to be reading what I am writing. I felt at the time; the onslaught was just. Before he changed his profile info he very much appeared like an everyday spammer. Profiles made just to sell things...look at his blooming avatar for Christ's sake!

I KNOW the mods thing was being worked on before the forum wars ; BUT it got sped up immediately after the revolt.

I've never experienced anyone more infuriating than you in my entire life; and I went to school with wound up, relgious fanatic nuns.

THANKYOU KILA, I could kiss you!! You're nothing less than a legend. I found a Finnish joke for you.

Scientists discoverd an ancient mummy inside a newly found tomb. After years of research, they couldnt work out how old it was; so they decided to give it to the KGB.

After just one hour with the mummy, they returned and said
'The mummy is exactly 5430 years old.'
'How did you find out?!' exclaimed the scientists.
'He confessed'

DefenderOfKnowledge 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 4:29 -
I have to agree. This guy almost sounds like a bot. He hasn't said one thing apart from his book, almost.

Seriously, Thilian. Neutrality gets old after a while.
Jeremy Smiley 16 years, 1 month ago at Mar 31 4:34 -
I understand how you all feel, promoting ones material is one thing but to solely talk about it is plain ignorant. I just thought it would be a positive thing to share that "my book may be featured in a film". People ask about my book, sure I will reply, but I will not stay focused on that. I'm not a robot....I think I'm still human....

Alrighty then.

I suppose it's ok. I mean that's what this thread is about, right? I've seen you post in other threads, Jeremy, and it hasn't only been about your book, so you're cool with me. :-)

I just hate it when people like join a forum, or a site or something, and then all they do is post things like "CHECK OUT MY NEW VIDEO" or such.

Which is EXACTLY what he did. This is spam pure and simple. The gentleman in question joined the site, and with 0 items rated or listed, with NOTHING on his profile but loads of promo for his book, he posted this ad on the forums.

When confronted about it, he went and posted on couple of other threads, quickly changed his profile info, rated a half dozen movies and wrote a half dozen cruddy one-line reviews (particularly lame for a supposed writer), which does more harm than good IMO.

If you released a book DoK, it would be okay for you to post about it on the forums because you're an active contributing member of the community. We know you a little and would be happy to talk about it. It's not okay for outsiders to come and use this as a free advertising space. The longer this thread stays up, the more harm it does. Apparently our mods were on weekend holiday 3 days ago.

Delete this thread please.

(also sorry for lecturing tone, bit grumpy today, regards: j.)

If the moderators could reach a consensus on what's spam and what isn't, that'd be wonderful. I've encountered communities where there was a set line between the acceptable and the spam and think it'd be best to look at what's worked elsewhere.

I'm not being neutral. I'm trying to state my side as free of semantics as I can.

Couldn't agree more, J (ok Im settling on that nickname now). I would take time out to read DoK's book..oh, you have a book now DoK!. Sorry to hear you're grumpy J. Obviously my joke didnt have any long term cheering effects.

for the record, I don't know where I stand with this. Spam or no spam? There was another member that started posting page after page of his book, the viking one. To me, that was spam. But simply saying 'Hey, i wrote a book, please check it out, it may be made into a movie', i don't know if I consider i truly consider it spam.

I personally feel it wont hurt us to encourage independent writers and musicians on this site, and even allow them some leeway in promoting some of their works. Yes, it falls into a grey area of what is and what isn't spam, and its best we have clear guidelines for future threads such as this, so I'm going to leave it up to Tom what he wants to do with this.

Hahahahaha. Prick.

The Writer/Musician should contribute to the site before they start advertising. I'm sure you VIP members forked out a tenner to not deal with that.

I personally would like to see progress on their profile before they start showing off what a good writer they are. I haven't checked but apparently his reviews don't reflect that of a budding writer. I'm off to slueth.

and for the record, I may be somewhat biased on this one. As a father of 4year-old and 2year-old girls, I'm actually interested in checking this title out, especially since the author has girls of the same age.

But honestly, Listal is where you can share your views, make recommendations, and discover new stuff, correct? How is Uber recommending 'I am Legend', or ClaudiaDepp recommending the latest Johnny Depp film, any different than this guy recommending this kids book? As long as it doesnt become in-your-face promotion (like that Viking book author, posting half a dozen threads and giving people previews of his chapters), I honestly don't see it as spam. But I thought I'd make it clear i'm probably biased so I'm letting Tom make the call on this one.

p.s. welcome to the site, Jeremy.

I agree that it would be great for new writers etc to be on here, but surely we want their profile rather then the information about their work?. Like if a musician joined, a profile saying 'I'm John Doe, im 36 and I'm a musician' rather than:

about me: 'My song is called bla its about bla'
about my collections 'my song is 3 minutes long it aviable on vinyl etc'

Plus its not contrubutory to the site at all. Other than its forums..and do we really need more on here?

I was trying to say that it would be better for a new musician to actually contribute and get a better idea who's compatable with their sort of music, and then who might be interested. Also its good for research, what things are popular with the masses? etc

And whats stopping a windows salesman making a profile tomorrow, avatar of his windows, about me about his windows..posting in forums, selling his windows. Well enough on windows ha, but its just soliciting really I think. Its cold calling but on a forum. He hadn't even rated a thing or mentioned himself on the profile page untill I called him out.

I hope I make some sense.

I have to make it clear to everyone, that he adjusted his profile after our encounter, I wouldnt have launched otherwise. I saw a profile with no ratings, no personal profile information. An about me that said 'My book is called Mice City' and an about my collections that said more about 'Mice City'. I'm sure some sort of contribution should be made before advertising is permitted

I don't have a problem with people promoting stuff on the forums but it may get deleted depending on :

a) How relevant/interesting it is the the visitors of this site
b) Do they come back and reply to the thread they have created
c) Have they put some effort into their profile or generally contributing to the site.

Since promoting is pretty rare at the moment, it's not much of a problem but if a lot people come to do this then the rules may be stricter.

well i think this thread has derailed enough and cleared up a few issues, but its hard to talk about the book anymore. Jeremy, if you get more news on the movie deal for your book, please start a new thread.
