The big Grand Theft Auto IV play thread

So, do you already have GTA IV? I picked it up for the 360 this morning and let me tell you - it's fantastic. More impressions coming soon.

I dont have a system to play it on (hope they treat us to a PC version by christmas) but from many early accounts, we may be talking highest-rated-game-EVER. looking forward to your review on this title, Moz. But dont rush it like all the early reviews out there saying 'OMG OMG AWESOME!!!!' :)

Nah, I won't do that. Although my first impressions are that it's one excellent game.

a perfect 10/10 on Gamespot, and 'average' of all other reviews is 9.9/10. I don't think that's ever happened before, has it? I think 9.8 was highest I've seen in past.

Yeah, a lot of sites are giving perfect tens, like IGN. Is it deserved? I don't know. Last time this happened was with Zelda: Ocarina of Time I think. I'm having a great time though so right now I can't debunk the score. Although there are a little too many graphical glitches for my liking.

Amen to that! I'd rather spend $150 on a new video card than $450 for a next gen system.

Rumors (from a French website) are strong for an October '08 PC launch. And Rockstar hasn't failed the PC crowd yet (typically 6 to 8 months after console launch, they launch a PC version). It has been that way since GTA III.

@robelanator: yes, but to keep up to date with the latest PC games (which I do every now and then), you have to buy a new video card every 1,5 years. So you're losing more money than with a next gen system. All in all its just what you prefer, playing on PC or on a console. Simple as that.

True enough. Me, I don't even have an HDTV yet, though, so I'm looking at another $500-$600 at least for that in order to really take advantage of a 360 of PS3. :(

GTA IV looks really awesome. I'll be first in line to buy the PC version when it finally comes out.

Yeah, the price barrier to dive into the new gen is very steep this time, I'm the first to admit. I don't even want to know how much it has cost me to have all the current gen consoles, their best games and a HDTV. I really, really don't want to know. I just don't think about it.

I will get it when it comes out on the pc. I just hope it's more like san andreas or gta3 than vice city, I really hated vice city because the handling of the car and controls seemed really strange (pc version).

um ok, I don't own X360 nor the PS3, so I can only judge by what review I read, but what's with the 720p rez for X360 and 640 (or is it 680?) rez for PS3?

It's very misleading these systems brag about High Definition 1080p when I run Crysis in at its glory in 1280x1024 rez on my PC, and the biggest and baddest game ever to hit the consoles runs at 720p or less.

Seems both the X360 and PS3 are lacking in the kahunas department. I think I'll stick to PC gaming and wait for the true High-Def GTAIV experience this fall.

Yes, both versions have a few little quirks on the graphical department. But it still looks incredible, especially with all the details on screen. If you have one of the consoles at home I can't see why you wouldn't buy it if you're a fan of the series and you have money to spare.
