Better Than....

I been seeing this lately, a lot of people like to turn EVERYTHING into a conest. Like for example "ohhh megadeth is better than metallica", WHO CARES, or "fight club is better than se7en" stuff like this bothers me because why does everything have to be a contest, i dont get it, practically i dont like it. In fact if someone asks me which is better i wold probably say both, because its just annoying that we have to make everything better than something else. Its like were 5 years old again, going "x-men is better than spider-man" i mean really im not 5 years old anymore. To me I think everything should be equally as good, but thats me, who else feels this way.

It is silly but it is also part of the psychological developmental process. Defining "I am like my friends" and then "I am not like my friends". So, for some being able to express that they like Spiderman more then the X-men is a huge step. I would say 'becoming an adult' but I know plenty of people over the age of 30 who would scream at me for not liking the new Batman movies. Or on a more pretentious level what Lars von Trier I did understand and found 'inaccessible'. So, it is something that we continue to do throughout our lives, trying to find other who thought "X" was great so that we don't feel alone and then arguing over "Y" so that we feel like an individual.

Granted this becomes a bit more interesting if the people you are talking to have seen a lot of films or read a lot of books but I'm old and grumpy

In the end it is all about as interesting as what shoes Angelina Jolie happens to be wearing on a certain day or worse those dreadful Facebook "All about me" notes that ask the same questions just in different wording... and still... people go crazy just to find out.

What are people trying to proove that "x" movie is better than "y" movie it just shocks me how many people do it. Of course I have favorite movie, but im not saying its better than other movies, cant everything just be equal.

I use it as a comparison method to check ratings and rank better.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It is great that people think diffrently, and think something is better than the other. Wouldn't it be boring if everyone taught everything were equal?

True, but I mean the people that have to blabb about it, i dont mind it but when people blabb about it on TV or on the internet its annoying

I agree with what jaytoast said, but you also make a good point ran88dom99 in that you can use other people's subjective points of view to your advantage. I have members on here who also like some of the same things I like and they can give me feedback on stuff I've yet to watch/read/etc. For example, the giraffe encouraged me to "go watch Ghostbusters" and commented that it's "aged well" among other things, so I did. And I loved it! Alternatively, you don't have to take what everyone else says as aligned with what you want. For instance, I read Listal user ape's review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, and two things he cites (which I trust are entirely true) as flaws are dependency on the Super Smash Bros. formula and character selection for not including characters from the 80's cartoon. I appreciated him mentioning these two things because to me they're pluses: I've enjoyed the Super Smash Bros. games, and prefer the more true-to-the-comics 2003 TV series from which many of the characters in Smash-Up were taken. These aren't examples of Better Than/Worse Than statements, but if you say why something's better than or worse than something else, the rule works in the same way.

The only way you can break the above rule is by saying something that is completely and utterly false. For example, if the giraffe has said "Ghostbusters is about a fallen, alcoholic country music singer portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow," Or if ape had said, "TMNT: Smash-Up is a game where you play as General Custer and dodge arrows on his way to a naked Native American woman," Neither of those would be any help at all.

I imagine a perfect world would have perfect entertainment but still different preferences. I don't want everyone to like all the same things I like. We're each at the center of our own Venn diagram, and while we share certain circles with other people's, we're never going to share all. It's subjectivity. Except when it comes to people thinking the X-Men are better than Spider-Man... That's just faulty logic.

I Think Its Quite Healthy To People Who Do It From Time To Time But If They Start Doing All The Time.... Then We Got A Problem!

An Individual's Opinion Is Far More Better Than Checking Movie Aggregators Like Rotten Tomatoes & MetaCritic.... They Do Help But They Mostly Rely On The Public!

Ending up alone on these things against 10 ppl is the reason im on Listal. Also I like when criticks search hard for an items faults and give serious end ratings opposite of what almost all criticks seem to do. RJ4 pls give an example because we may have different understandings of blab.

Everyone is special and entitled to their own opinion. Except the army never got involved in anything S-man did and that is just impossible to believe.

^ Great link, ran88dom99! I enjoyed seeing Biollante, Pleasantville, The Cookie Monster, Spock, and Picard as illustrations. I believe saying someone who isn't of ___ opinion is of its opposite ___ opinion falls into the Reductio ad absurdum fallacy.

In science the differing of views results in breakthroughs and sometimes even brand new fields of study. So why can't it have eventual reward in a melting pot like the internet?

I think the author is blowing off steam for all the mail he got for his other videos. Arguing by making elaborate videos may not be what RJ4 was talking about but the video is fun and sort of relevant.

I don't really see "opposite opinion" that much.
