Best Reviews/ Review exposure

I'm bringing up something that Prelude and GA chatted about in another thread; it was off topic in there (tut tut)..and then I went and revived a bloody dead thread over it!

Prelude

I'm going a bit off topic, but this reminds me of something I noticed. I've known Moz La Punk on here for a while (i think he joined around same time as I did) and his reviews are professional grade - i mean he does run his own game review site. Yet I seem to be the only one voting for his game reviews:

mozlapunk.listal.com/reviews/games

There's way too many 'OMG THIS GAME ROX!!' reviews, and not enough of Moz's quality, so please show some support by voting for the good reviews you come across on Listal.

ok, back on topic. I mentioned my name is from my fave car I've ever owned, a '92 Prelude right? :)

Grand Assault

I think the problem with voting for reviews is that they only seem to get airtime when you first put them up and people see them in the recent reviews section. Moz's reviews are pretty sweet, I enjoy reading them, though I don't vote because I have never played any of the games he's reviewing :)

Prelude

I was thinking of adding HTML links to some of the better reviews into some of my lists, like the IMDb Top250 list, or Best Gamecube Games lists, and so on. Give particular great reviews a bit more exposure, and also improve the lists some more.

I dont really need to add much; I just agree that some amazing reviews like Moz's are getting overlooked, props man, you put me to shame. This is exactly why we should get a 'best reviews' section or some such going.

Any suggestions?

Tom is promising use an 'Explore Lists' section for lists that stand out, so maybe he can code up 'Explore Reviews' as well at same time?

Basically, for both Custom Lists and Reviews, I'd love to have an area to not only explore most recent ones, but also see 'top viewed', 'top voted', and maybe even a sticky area for 'List of the Week' or 'Review of the Week', maybe for each category as well.

Agreed - in both the case of lists and reviews. I would say it's marginally more important for lists - they get very little recognition at the moment - but do like all of Prelude's suggestions there.

Maybe it'll help to sort reviews based on which received the most votes?

Usually for me to find a good review I usually have to find a good reviewer and I roll it from there.

Rather than start a new thread thought it better to revive this one.

On the subject of great reviews have just been browsing Hexenkult's. Absolutely top notch stuff. He's got an *ahem* alternative taste in movies & music but his reviews make for fabulous reading, informative & humorous, check 'em out ..

I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like reviews are getting much less attention these days than they used to! Maybe people just aren't reading them anymore, I don't know.

I belong to another site where all I did was review music and I use to have my own noise review blog back when I did noise but since I've joined this site I'm glad I can review Movies and Books so hopefully I'll be doing a lot more on this site that on the other one, that was just music based. I agree so far with the users mentioned in this thread...good stuff!

I'll check out his stuff. I don't read most reviews because, as mentioned, a lot of them aren't very well written.

I wrote a brief review of Guinea Pig 2, mostly as a counterpoint to Hexenkult's, but I'm so rusty that it's probably a bit stiff and dry.

This user just started reviewing games (just two so far) but the caliber of them is top notch, and we should support him with votes. bravo!

With regard to reviews, how many votes do they need to get to be broadcast on the front page? I know they go up after two, but how many is it before they get more airtime after that?

Got directed here: Cheers Prelude.
