Best cinema experience in the World

We all rant and rave about which movie we like, but where is the best place to watch it. At home, in a cinema, on a plane?

My personal favourite was Warner Bros Cinema in Lakeside, Thurrock, England. It was cheap, always empty, so I had the pick of the seats, no chatter to disturb the experience. I saw Predator 2 with just two other people in the whole theatre (even so we shared a chuckle when the reporter got thumped).

What is your personal favourite and why?

Ever since seeing the film Philadelphia - being in empty cinemas has always kinda creeped me out... so my best times have been when the cinemas were packed to the brim.

when i saw Matrix Reloaded the cinema was packed and there was nearly fights before the screening because people werent in the EXACT seats. there was almost a forty minute delay until the film started but after that the audience was one and the atmosphere was fantastic. Nobody realised how bad that film was first time around ;)

Mine has always has been the Robin cinema at Basildon.
It was a dilapidated old building that's been closed for probably well over 12 years.
But I saw my first ever film there, with my grandparents. I remember the whole place being dark, even before you entered the old stlye TINY screening rooms. It being half the price of anywhere else and a tiny glass box of popcorn in the entrance.

After that, the Playhouse in Norwich which shows old and foreign films at a tiddly price.

I always feel a bit uneasy in empty cinemas, but that's what makes it better than watching a film at home. The thought of a whole cinema playing to just you.

Oh My God - Robin Cinema, that brings back memories for me too. I loved it when it tried to compete with the big boys and became a 'Multiplex'. Yes more screens but they weren't any larger than today's wide-screen TVs.

Watching Star Wars: Episode III at the Ziegfeld in NYC was pretty neat, probably the biggest movie theatre I've ever been in.

IMAX (short for Image MAXimum) is a motion picture film format and projection standard. IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. Think High-definition (HD) for Cinema! In London, the BFI IMAX uses a screen more than 20 metres high (that's nearly the height of five double-decker buses!) and 26 metres wide.

Add to that a cracking 11,600-watt digital surround-sound system.

The 3D element is just that, you see a three dimensional image, just like like real-life where some things are near and others far away, unlike a cartoon which is 2D and flat.

I really want to go to the cinema just writing this!

The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Tx is maybe doesn't qualify for the 'best', but it's definitely fun.

I got to agree with Shaun (word, my name is Shawn too!) seeing any (of course I saw all) Star Wars movie was a treat, but my absolute favorite theatre to go to would have to be the UA stadium in Long Island New York, because no one's heads are in the way and when a theatre is empty, I love that. Long Island is home to not only good people who like to watch movies, but loud kids with nothing important to say yet they talk anyways; which is why i LOVE to watch a movie in a theatre without more than 5 people in it. though movie prices don't go down in price as they get older (which they should!) the people who flock to see them dwindle down to a handful of older people who know how to shut up and enjoy a flick!
