Ben Affleck as the new Batman?

Looks like Ben Affleck has been cast as the Dark Knight for the upcoming Batman/Superman crossover movie - I'm not seeing it, but then I couldn't see Michael 'Mr. Mom' Keaton as Batman either and he ended up being excellent - so do you think he is the right choice?

I don't know. I can't really see it, but I'm optimistic. A lot of people are citing Daredevil as an indication that he'll kill the franchise (take a look at the comment section of Variety's article about to find people who need a life), but I felt that the film was just bad from a story and direction perspective. Do I think he'll be the best batman? No. But do I think that he's the worst choice in the world? No.

I don't think Daredevil would have worked no matter who played the lead, it was a bad a movie about a super hero not many people know or care about - Batman is a different story - I can't imagine a Superman/Batman movie being anything less than great - so while I don't think Affleck was the best choice, I think he will do alright.

agreed.

Personally, I think that 'Daredevil' was not so bad at all but I'm definitely in the minority and I always had a weak spot for this super-hero. It is quite funny that even though Ben Affleck has made an impressive come-back recently, some peole are still pissed off about him because during a couple of years he picked up some pretty shitty movies. On the other hand, it is quite remarkable how the studios can change their minds concerning an actor, one minute, they wouldn't touch him and the minute after, they can't get enough of him. Still, after the 'Daredevil' misfire, Ben Affleck said he really regretted making this movie and dressing up in super-suite is not something he would want to do ever again. Anyway, there were no actors who could have been perfect and there always will be some people complaining. Eventually, it could be a huge jump forward like 'The Dark Knight' was for 'Batman begins' or it could end up being slightly better (or worse) than 'Man of Steel'. We'll see but I'm intrigued and I think it is a great move to make a movie with these two characters.

I think Ben Affleck is perceived as a lightweight unsuited for the role of Batman, while Christian Bale was perceived as a bad ass who fit the role of the Dark Knight to a tee, but Affleck showed in Argo that he is a good actor, and he is just going to have to further up his game for this role, especially since he will be battling Superman - I am also very intrigued and excited about this movie.

I just hope we don't see this:

VierasTalo 11 years, 8 months ago at Aug 24 2:43 -
I REALLY want to see that!

The annoying thing for me is the negative comments he made about working on Daredevil, and superhero movies in general. Some people, myself included), actually really liked the movie. So it didn't do very well critically or commercially, and your ego got bruised, but come on, don't diss on the whole genre/fandom because you're hurting.
Pay a guy enough money and he'll do anything I guess.

I am not excited about having yet another Batman or Superman movie so I guess I don't care? He's one of a thousand white dude actors who could play this role, commercially and critically speaking a new actor as Batman so soon after we had Batman movies is neither going to be super amazing nor super awful, it's just gonna be meh. He'll be fine.

Id would be way cooler if there could be a different superhero in the limelight for a change.

I'd say there's a far greater chance that the movie itself will suck than Ben Affleck in particular. Not that I necessarily think the movie will be bad. It's just that there's always a whole host of things that could (and often do) go wrong with superhero movies. Maybe the movie winds up as good as The Avengers, maybe it winds up trash like Iron Man 3 or maybe it falls somewhere in between. I'm just saying that at this point Mr. Affleck is to me a safer bet than the production as a whole.
Xanadon't 11 years, 8 months ago at Aug 27 5:55 -
...But then again, I've always thought that Christian Bale was a fucking disaster as Batman.

I'm in the minority when I say that Daredevil wasn't a bad movie. It wasn't great or amazing, but I've seen a lot worse movies over the years. As for Ben Affleck playing the role of Batman, I'm kind of unsure what to think. I personally think that he can do a good job. At least that is what I'm hoping will happen because I really want a Batman/Superman movie that is a huge success.

Just keep in mind that people went ape shit over Heath Ledger getting casted as Joker.

Affleck has always been a guilty pleasure for me. His acting has gotten better with age however, as evidenced by The Town and Agro. I just don't know if he's fit for Batman. That's sort of like casting Jim Carrey as Dracula.

I'm scrounging my brain, and I'm really not able to come up with a suitable alternative. Who would people rather see as Batman? And don't tell me Channing Tatum.

Also, unlike Superman, Batman doesn't really have a history of being casted with relatively unknown actors.

I mean, it's not like they gave it to Nic Cage.

Ben Affleck as Batman - LOL, a stupid stupid idea as he lacks the killer instinct...it would be like casting Tom Hanks

TBH they need to give the character and movies a rest

I'm still waiting to hear a viable and suitable alternative.
arkkangabriel 11 years, 7 months ago at Sep 15 12:29 -
truth does not see it as a batman one type hardened circumstances not to be a man of justice, but beyond a person capable of being the hero without superpowers

I would have preferred someone new in every way dance Chistopher cut

Affleck has shown that he can do dark and brooding, which is basically what this version of Batman is going to be like. And he has the chin for it. I think it's a great choice.

If you thought Affleck was a poor choice wait till you see who is Lex Luthor; Jessie Eisenberg.

This movie has disaster written all over it. As long as Zack Synder is the director, it will be terrible just as Man of Steel was.

Personally, I don't even care to see another Batman movie for awhile. They should move on to something else that they haven't done. Affleck is a horrible choice but there are certainly worse. Hell, Stephen Amell (who plays in Arrow) would be a better choice than Affleck or Theo James (for a choice of someone not all that well known).

If they're going to do a DC comics movie then why not just do The Flash or Wonder Woman or even Hawkman/Hawkgirl and really pour on the Egyptian reincarnation aspect - now that I would pay to see.

Don't think Eisenberg is a bad choice, but it's definitely an interesting choice. But I think he can pull it of. He's the same age as Henry Cavill, and has played characters (particularly Mark Zuckerberg) who has traits that are very much in common with Lex Luthor.

Jeremy Irons as Alfred is awesome casting.

Mark Zuckerberg is the closest thing we have to a Lex Luthor in real life. I could easily go on and on about how much criminal things he gets away with since he has money, but that's for another thing.

I don't think Eisenberg is a great choice cause I just don't see Lex in him, but then again i find Zack Synder to be an extremely overrated director that don't know how to write out a personality for characters. That was my main gripe with Man of Steel, the characters felt like card board cut outs with no personality.

I do agree that it's getting old throwing Batman in everything. The Nolan trilogy was perfection and I don't want to see it ruined.
Lito Lapida 11 years, 2 months ago at Feb 16 14:14 -
This movie is doomed. Affleck's chin is perfect for the costume but aside from that he is the worst pick. Next, a skinny Wonder Woman. wtf??? and last Eisenberg as Lex? I like Eisenberg specially in Zombieland but as an evil rich as fuck genius? Hell NO!!! They should have cast someone believable as a bad bad man, not someone who looks like he can't even kill a cockroach.

Lito got it right but the main reason it's fucked; Zack Synder is directing it. We already knew he couldn't direct worth a shit with Sucker Punch, and we really knew he sucked with how Man of Steel's plot holes were so big, I could step right through it and lead a marching band.
BAMF 11 years, 2 months ago at Feb 23 1:58 -
I like Ben Affleck he is amazing and I loved Man of Steel. We will have to just wait and see although Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is going to be tougher to imagine.
