The Band You Saw Live, But Wish You Hadn't

The kind of opposite to my last thread. Are there any bands you went to see live, which left you feeling majorly underwhelmed?

I once went to see the Lost Prophets live and they were absolutely dire, it was a shoddy gig and I wasn't at all impressed. I had seen them at a festival and they seemed ok, but when it was their own fans, they didn't do very well for them. It put me off the band to an extent, but then so did their music becoming poor anyway.

I later saw Iron Maiden live, now its not really their fault, but I wish I hadn't because they are such a big band, there were thousands upon thousands of people there, and I was so far back I couldn't possibly enjoy it. They opted to play none of their many classics too, im not an avid fan, but I knew enough of their tracks by ear to easily fill a two hour gig, instead they played Run To the Hills as I was leaving near the end, and nothing else I knew! Perhaps they were catering for their early fans, but I can't imagine many were there in a sell out crowd of tens of thousands.

My Chemical Romance supported another band I had gone to see, and were pretty shit too, I wasn't at all impressed by them, it may have even been the same gig as Lost Prophets!

I bet there are plenty of scorned fans on Listal, lets here it folks, whos not hot live? Save people some time and money!

Care to explain what made them suck? As I said in the other thread, its so much nicer when people write coherent responses in full paragraph form, giving reason etc. Listing and saying the odd sentence doesn't give me much to go by when replying.

Not saying to be rude, Just Saying.

I saw a christian band named C.O.G.(Children of God).
It was free..but I could have went my whole life without that annoying music.
Enko 15 years, 9 months ago at Aug 14 3:22 -
well what ended up happening is that they played half the time with all there popular music then the other half there idk how to explain it it was just messed you had know idea what they were doing

I can appreciate that Enko, I guess bands try and play for all of their fans, in my instances they alienated me as a relatively new fan (in comparison to their massive history) even though I knew a sizable chunk of their discography. Do you know most of Bostons songs? Or do you mean they were just jamming on the guitar, playing whatever they fancied. Sometimes thats cool, I've seen a gig end with a 20 minute guitar solo before that just had everybody staring in awe.

Not heard of C.O.G, Tori. But I imagine how tedious they must have been if they were free to listen to. I am sure not all Christian Rock bands are awful, I also imagine that there are probably a few bands I know that I've never realized are CR bands. But I can't say I would actively seek one out from experience!!

Yeah. I'm not really a Christian, but I love rock and I couldn't take that. It was really bad music, and just made no sense really. C.O.G. is a band around where I live so they're not that big.

I saw Simple Plan in concert, and I absolutely detest their music anyway, but it was for a friend's birthday. I can't stand bands today and their whiny, emotional lyrics that lack any depth or merely decent instrumental.

Another one is Goldfinger which was just at Summerfest - the music wasn't horrible, but the crowd was filled with crazy teenagers and I was about 2 seconds from being swallowed by a mosh pit. I backed away from that one...:D

A couple weeks ago I saw The Go! Team live. They were awful for two reasons:

1) The guy at the mixing board was an idiot. The band had three guitarists, two drummers, a bassist, and two singers, and all of them (except the singers) were at maximum volume. It was a muddled mess of sound. I know it wasn't just the acoustics of the venue because the two bands that proceeded them (Natalie Portman's Shaved Head and Matt and Kim) and the one that followed (CSS) sounded great.

2) Even with 7 people on stage the band still felt the need to rely on pre-recorded material during the songs. They didn't even hire a keyboardist to play the string sections or trigger samples, they just played everything straight from DAT-- even parts of the vocal choruses!

I was extremely disappointed, because the band sounds like sooo much fun on their albums. :(

I saw The Killers and now I'm not much of a fan.

The music sounded far too much like it does on the album, but mostly I was upset with what little regard they held for their audience/fans. The show was sold out, house was packed, and they barely said hello. They came out, played their songs and then left. That kind of arrogance and disrespect just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Another Milwaukee native?

I didn't make it to Summerfest at all this year, unfortunately. Too busy preparing to move, moving, and then unpacking. Too bad, as I really wanted to see Gnarles Barkley and Coheed and Cambria, at least.

Coheed and Cambria are fantastic live! They put on quite a decent show, and really get the audience going. It was them who I saw when after playing the gig, their lead went on a 15-20 minute (ie a bit long) solo whilst everyone just stood and watched impressed. The fact he did it after the show and not in whilst the others slacked or something, was great! It wasn't just noise either, it sounded good.

I saw Goldfinger at a festival and I have to agree their fans were an irritation! I stood behind the largest member of my group so he would take any beatings that escaped the crowd.

You Americans get the greatest gigs over there, Coheed recently did a 4 day thing where each evening they played an entire Album from start to finish live. I'd kill for them to do it in the UK!

I saw The Mars Volta at the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco last New Year's Eve. It was painfully loud and the treble pierced right through anything that stood in its way. I just stood there with a half-empty beer and blood in my ears thinking "It wasn't this bad last time I was here...". The ball dropped and we went home.

Of course! Go Milwaukee :) I had originally wanted to see Coheed and Cambria, but work gets in the way of these things...I did, however, make it to People in Planes, which was actually pretty entertaining considering I had never heard of them before Summerfest. I missed Seether, though.

I wouldn't say I wish i hadnt seen them, but i saw The Mars Volta a few months ago. They played for like, 3 hours straight. it was exhausting. (maybe because i wasn't high?) good show, but just way too long.

Yeah, I was hoping for a real rocker of a show, but the acoustics were just so bad. Even their acoustic set was difficult to sit through.

I'm going to the Outside Lands Festival in SF next weekend. Of the 65 or so bands, acts, and artists, I'm sure there will be many that I wish I hadn't seen.

KISS.
I'm not a fan, but a friend had an extra ticket,
so I went.
Their performance wasn't that bad ( they know how to put on a show)
but their music was just not good at all.

REO speedwagon. I like most eighties music and theirs is good but in concert they sounded horrible. don't know if they were having a bad night or if it was the accoustics or what but something was up.

There was a band from Maine who came down to Garland. They were a christian band, so my Youth director planned a trip to go see them. If you ever see a CD by a band called "The Wreaking", don't buy it. It is sure to suck something fierce.

They were playing in Paris in a free festival when I was there too.
They sucks anyway not just live:D

This would have to be Motorhead in 2000 in Toronto. I am still feeling the effects of this show! They were playing this small venue called the Warehouse (which literally was a small warehouse) and the amps were turned up way too loud. Well I guess I was standing too close to one of them and after the show I could barely hear anything and it went on for about a day after that. I was able to hear other people complaining of the loud amps as I was leaving. But ever since then I have a clicking noise between my ears when I swallow, yawn or sneeze. Does anyone know what this might be? I've seen a few specialists and doctors who haven't been able to do anything for me. I guess I've learned to live with it by now.

In 2003, I saw Whitesnake in the very first appearence of the band in Greece after 25 years of career. The concert was sold-out, the atmosphere in the stadium was great by fans of various ages (15-65 years old) and we had high expectations. Disappointment came for the most of us almost from the beginning of the concert. The music was too loud and it was covering completely the voice of David Coverdale. There was a very good reason for this. The man's voice was in bad form. We understood this when he tried to sing acappella a few songs of Deep Purple, but he gave up quickly. Maybe he was ill, tired or too old to sing well. Maybe the band visited us too late.

hmm, I dont remember staying for a band and saying "wow, this sucks" but I did see Mushroomhead and in the middle of their awesome set full of songs I only hoped they would play, they whipped out a fucking Prince cover. Now Prince is awesome, but not in a metal show. With the price of tickets now a days, I go out of my way to have a good time at whatever concert I'm at.
