Over the time I have been here, there are a lot of threads that are soley based for the person who posted it to get people to talk to them. I find this totally idiotic. I thought this site was for placing opinions and not a help line...
ANY THOUGHTS???

i agree for it is a site for opinions but also interests in different topics, and to make friends. if theres anything else that i left out feel free to post them

Um, not to be rude or anything but...your all wrong. This is a site to list the things you like and talk to others about what you like and see if anyone else likes what you like.

Also since in the time I have been here(which was like a week or 2) I have gone way past you guys on actually contributing to the site as I can see all you guys do is talk in the forum part which is like 2% contributing.

Honestly I dislike the points system as some people get too competitive on this(Derron, you win, drop it lol), But, Derron is correct, this site has nothing to do with making friends, granted that is one of the features you can get out of it, it is mainly a listing and interests site used to record what you've seen or read and see what you may want to read or see next, it also allows you to mingle and chat about familiar topics and become familiarized with others views and learn to respect other opinions, yes people are tempermental, yes some are annoying, live with it, there are billions of people in the world, they all aren't the same, so fighting will happen,...

I wouldn't say the vast majority are really into anime as they are just into a certain anime. This, I imagine is what rubbed so many people the wrong way. They wouldn't shut the fuck up about it. Whether it was Death Note or Naruto or Bleach. they acted as if they were the best things since the internet. Now its just a minor annoyance here.

This is, primarily, a cataloguing site for listing the items we own/want/are interested in, hence the name Listal. I believe it can be listed as a social networking site, but it is not in the way many people tend to use a lot of websites nowadays to purposely make new friends (note here, LibraryThing, another cataloguing site is also listed in many places as a social networking website). The site allows you to invite people you already know so that you can compare items and what you want, thus helping develop friendships further, or just give information you hadn't necessarily talked about before. I use the site because I have a lot of books I own and films I have seen that otherwise would cause problems to keep track of, and this is a convenient way of doing so.

I think we're all getting a little side-tracked and personal here. Having an anime avatar does not mean the person is a bad member, and as you said, chibiyusa makes a good example of this. But what if I were to change mine to something anime? Would it invalidate what I said? I happen to be a fan of a lot of shows and films, I just don't feel the desire to plaster myself in the imagery at this moment in time.

Anime has developed into a taboo subject here (and in other places) so that a lot of people are accused and thrust aside without much thought, mainly through the banal and repetative topics and RPing we've had in the past on certain tv shows. I wouldn't blame anime itself but more the attitude of the younger generation nowadays, and the fact that they haven't had a chance to grow into the use of comprehensible conversation as it seems not to be a "popular" thing to do. Kids and teenagers just want to get their thoughts out as fast as they can and have an instant reply then and there because of the way many have grown up with easy access to everything they ask for (the internet: cause and solution to all of lifes problems?).

Now I think I've rambled on enough for now I'm going to say this: Start discussions that are site/item related and get people talking on track. And I'd also add that people should stop jumping to attack posters by calling them idiots. We all get frustrated by what we believe isn't valid discussion, but it really isn't our place to beat people up. Thats for the mods to do and then it shouldn't be severely. A gentle nudge in the right direction does a lot more than an insult and a flame war, which just causes ill-feelings to develop and more problems to arise later. Grow up, people, and lead others by your own example.

It is a generalisation but I was merely joking because it is an outrageous concept. In fact, I was laughing at Prelude and GA's joke suggestions to Listal in the Online Status thread which lead me to write that comment.

Tom, anyway to find out which schools these kids are from? (IP backtracking). Then, some of us can maybe take an initiative, such as send an email to that school saying their students are going around their MSN and Facebook filters and chatting up on Listal, and to please add Listal to their block list. ;-)

OK, personally, I think that this site above all is to post things that you like in comparason to other people, to generally find out what the majority of people who list items like...
I think making "Friends" is just a feature that comes with it and isnt the reason for the site... although I only list things that I really like and more so post thoughts on forums

Using the Friends feature on this website is to have easy access to other member's profiles to check on their latest ratings/lists/reviews. It doesn't mean you're soulmates; it just means that two people have decided to take an interest in each others tastes, wordsmithery and creativity.
