All it takes for illiteracy to flourish.

...is for good men to do nothing.

Now I'm not bad mouthing the forums here, whatever forum you have, it will bring the attention of the same one celled organisms who desperately attempt to string together a sentence.

I take issue with the people who do the following:

1: "I'm in love...lets talk about love, and what it means to be in love and how sometimes love makes you cry and write poetry."

Which brings me nicely to the second type of post

2: "Here's my poem, I hope you like it;
[Enter devastatingly awful poem]

3: Anybody who inexplicably uses two letter in words where they are not required nor desired. I.e "I'm goingg thru a breakk up"

I need to quote this because its almost unfathomable:

truthh, is i did once-_-'
i judgedd summonne without knowinn
her. but appoligizedd.
she turnedd out to be so awesumm(:

Is this not bothering anyone else? It's driving me insane. I think the thing that is really bothering me, is that some of the members who can read and write and form a cohesive arguement are just getting suckered into conversation;

"It's not good to judge someone on their appearance, but at least you apologized to her :)"

When surely this should be only met with fire? Learn how to write, then I might dignify you with a response!! You type like you're in the middle of a tectonic shift!

Are we really that desperate for conversation that we will engage with these peons?

For those wondering, GemLil is referring to this thread:
www.listal.com/topic/do-you-juge-people-their

I don't want to sound like a pushover, but it honestly doesn't bother me too badly so long as it's intelligible. I know it grates on others' nerves and I do appreciate proper English though so posts like these should be either deleted or discouraged. I don't see the point in flaming over it, of course, as that's just taking guns and bullets and responding with a rocket launcher. Ungrammatical posts are better than flame posts any day, in my opinion.

I'm not specifically referring to that thread, although it was the one I used as an example.

taking guns and bullets and responding with a rocket launcher

....isn't that the best way to approach life though?!

Heh, I guess. Whatever floats your boat. =P

As people are probably aware, I'd treat these retards with nothing but flames until they learn the error of their ways. My writing isn't perfect and I don't expect others to be either, but it certainly pisses me off when people can't be bothered to try.

I share your sentiments, Gem, almost exactly. And it's precisely why I don't participate in the forums all that much anymore. I suppose I'd much rather ignore than engage, unless it's something completely unforgivable...

I leave the forums for a bit and it really doesn't seem like it has changed at all :D

See, this thread is getting the oldschoolians back together. I knew some good would come of it.

That's because a lot of us oldschoolians (trademark that one Gem!) are a bit smarter and discerning than the average user. ;)

Most people lurk until they feel comfortable with a site. The 'ripping on users' thread is typically a bad sign and one that sends even the most grammatically correct scurrying away. As this is indicative of larger issues unrelated to grammar.

If that's the case jaytoast then people misunderstand. Nobody is being a grammar nazi, its just the 12-16 year olds that came on here a lot at one point gave everyone a headache and caused a lot of intolerance to stupidity. Nobody expects grade A workmanship, this is an internet forum. Its just trying to spell properly and writing more than 5 words a post that people expect. Keyword trying, it doesn't have to be perfect in the slightest.

I think the large issue is that I hate children, all children, but with particular reference to American children.

It's about time we had a vent thread, all that's been in the forums for months are pansy threads that couldn't get more left wing if they were written on hemp paper with ink only taken from free range squids and read aloud, accompanied by bongos in San Francisco.

ROFL, Oh... I could only agree more if you had included the small dogs that people carry in their purses and some of those children parents. Ah... nothing better then carefully explaining to a grown adult why they shouldn't let their child dance on the table of a five star restaurant.

I just think there is a bit of a divide between having two threads in the same area of the Forum where one says "Welcome" and the other one is... well... less... so

Perhaps there can be an "Off Topic" and a "Venting" area.

Your words sting me. I've been shot... straight to the heart D:

Wait... like the area we're already in? :o
I think it's delightful to see variety in the Off Topic area, that is the point, isn't it? Though perhaps a welcome thread ought to be sticky'd or something to that effect.

I reckon a grand reopening of Forums would be a good idea since they've just been revamped recently. Delete all the posts within it, start a welcome thread that informs users of what they need to know, start a new "how did you find listal" thread that doesn't have all the "narutards" (as they were called) in it, and which starts us all off on a fresh, new and level playing field where half of us aren't seen as bitter trolls hell bent on flaming everyone who speaks, and the other half are either gone, or have been taught the error of their ways. We could have some kind of rules in place before the reopening and those rules could be kept to with zero tolerance and small suspensions for persistant breakages.

Surely that would solve everything and kick start the community again?

I like the idea. Threads like "How did you find Listal" and "What is the last scary movie you watched?" are better broken up into editions, spring, summer... however you want to organize them. Pretty much after two pages where most of the users are gone I lose interest.

@ Gem's original post
Yes, I'm an American kid, and it even annoys the heck out of me when people try to write liek dey r so smartt adn no wat dey r talcking abot. I prefer it when people speak in English, not American gibberish.

@ RB6K
I think that's a pretty good idea. And maybe an Auto-ban system for any thread name that includes "roleplay" or "rp".
