Adding Music Artists

So, I am having trouble with this. If an artist has a page, you can add a different/new release. However, if they do not yet exist in the database, what do you do?

I have been trying to add Telescopes (band name). Can't link release to artist...?

I don't know how you synch up IMDb, but doing the same thing with Discogs would be great..

Adding new music artists is tricky, bands are classified in the same group as "people" on Listal, though they are collectives/artists as opposed to individual actors or celebrities obviously. You can't do it with IMDb because to the best of my knowledge they don't have bands on there, you can use Wikipedia, adding the URL from there in the same way you would an item, though the information tends not to be automatically transferred in the same way so you need to do it manually, adding info, picture etc, once the relevant details are added it should then sync up with the albums/releases.

Like you say it be would way easier if Listal synced with sites like Discogs or Last FM in the same way it does IMDb.

Yes, Wikipedia is the best way to do this and yes the discographies don't automatically sync. Going to Amazon for the album url is the best way to add albums.
Maybe Tom, the admin, is working on syncing discographies or maybe it's not possible. I'll ask.

some bands have an imdb page (a lot actually) because of their soundtrack work or whatever television/movie appearances. when I've uploaded any or most bands I've used imdb or a lastfm link on the occasions the band(s) weren't big enough or established enough to have an imdb. like they ^ mentioned above though, click on 'people' because if you pick music it list them in the same way it would list an uploaded album or individual record. for the album or record itself an amazon link will normally upload the band(s) releases. like the mod above said.
