Adding a Few New Formats/Systems To the Game Database

ape 13 years, 7 months ago at Sep 16 11:00 -
I'm working on a list right now, where I'd like to include some games from systems and formats that Listal currently doesn't have in its database. I can put them in the "Other" section if need be, but I just feel like it'll look much neater on a list if the actual console it's on is next to the title rather than the word "Other."

I've got no problem filling in these new formats and systems with entries and loading 'em up so they're not bare.

The main systems and formats that I can currently think of that I'd like to see added are (and some of these have been mentioned before by both myself and others)...

3DS Virtual Console
Apple II
Famicom Disk System
Jaguar CD
Lynx
MSX
Sega 32X
TurboGrafx CD
Vectrex
ZX Spectrum

Again, I've got absolutely no issues in adding entries to the databases so that they're not just sitting there with only one or two games in them. I enjoy the whole process of adding new stuff to Listal, so I'll gladly help out in that respect in any way I can.

Thanks for the consideration.

Also, while they're not really needed right now as they aren't out yet, Playstation Vita and Wii U sections will likely be needed within the next year in order to stay current. I'm sure the closer we get to their releases, other folks may be asking for 'em, too.

Bumping this 'cause I noticed 3DS Virtual Console, Playstation Vita, and Wii U sections were added. Just wondering if any of the older systems I requested are in the plans to be added. Again, I have absolutely no problem filling out these sections so they're not bare-bones...In fact, I'd look at it as a fun project to do.

Whether you add 'em or not, thanks for at least considering 'em, Mr. Tom...But I'll thank you more if you add 'em. :)

I've added the extra ones, let me know if there are still any missing. I've not added images for each platform yet.

Thank you, kindly. If you need images for them, I'll gladly try to get some for you.

The only one I see missing is the Sega 32X, otherwise it looks like you got 'em all.

Thanks again. I'll try to start filling them up with content over the next week or so, depending on the overtime hours at the ol' workplace.

Thanks for adding these, especially the 3DS Virtual Console section.

If you don't mind, I have some quesions:
- Is it possible to add an image for some of the consoles? For example, the 3DS Virtual Console and PSP Minis sections don't have any image at the moment.
- Can a DSiWare section be added? Right now, some titles are being added as a regular DS game, while some are added as a 3DS title. Adding a section would also make sense considering there is a WiiWare section seperate from retail Wii games already.

Also, considering consistency, the 3DS might cause problems in the future. Right now, there are seperate sections for downloadable games for the PS3 and the Wii, but downloadable (non-VC) 3DS titles are being added in the same category as retail games.

Thanks for the consideration.

Edit: another potential 3DS issue: the eShop features 3D Classics, which are essentially ports of a classic games with 3D functionality added. These are officially different from Virtual Console titles, as those are emulated versions of the game with nothing added to the game itself. Some of these 3D Classics are already categorized as Virtual Console games, while they should (in my opinion) be listed in a seperate category of downloadable 3DS titles.

Edit: it seems the DSiWare section was actually added a while ago. Sorry for the confusion.

Since the 3DS store includes everything from the DSiWare store, why don't we just group everything from each together under the platform "Nintendo eShop"? I don't see necessity in having a DSiWare platform, a 3DSWare (for lack of a better term) platform, and a Virtual Console platform - especially considering that last one shares its name with a different platform.

What I'd suggest is changing the name for "3DS Virtual Console" to "Nintendo eShop" and then adding any games previously attached to the DS and 3DS platforms to it. What do you guys think?

I think grouping everything under one category would be a bad idea.

First of all, the 3DS and DSi should be kept separate. The reason for that is that not every game on DSiWare can be used on a 3DS and not every game on the 3DS eShop can be used on a DSi (obviously).

Secondly, grouping every game (outside of DSiWare) in the eShop together could turn out to be confusing. As I mentioned earlier, Nintendo sells Virtual Console and 3D Classics versions of their games. The only way to differentiate between these without a separate category is via tags at the end, which is not ideal in my opinion.

Finally, the eShop brand will probably not be exclusive to the 3DS. With the introduction of the Wii U, having a Nintendo eShop category for both consoles would be confusing. It's not a huge problem though; the category could always be renamed.

I can see where you're coming from though; having so many categories for one console seems unnecessary and confusing. I'm curious to hear what other people think.

I haven't even owned my 3DS a month, so feel free to stop me if I'm guilty of distributing disinformation or otherwise confabulating my evidence. I'm glad there are concerned video game fans on the site keeping on top of these things. =]

Check this link - did you mean not all DSiWare games are available on the 3DS eShop yet? There may be applications unavailable on the 3DS eShop though. I'm not sure.

"3D Classics" is in the name for those releases, but yeah, Virtual Console and eShop should be separate anyway.

Good point. I think, and you are free to object, that the handheld downloadables should be under the same platform and the console ones under theirs. Some games have been released on both stores - Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Excitebike - and thus they shouldn't be in the same store. But the biggest thing is that all the eShop games can be obtained via the 3DS, and all the WiiWare and Virtual Console games will probably be downloadable via the Wii U, and it would get confusing having them in the same category for obvious reasons. I'd advocate for some simple differentiation between each platform, like "3DS/Handheld eShop" and "Wii U/Console eShop" (developmental name, of course).

We need more opinions, yodelayeoo!

Yeah, that is what I meant. Most DSiWare games are available on both DSi and 3DS, but some of them aren't and never will be.

I think I misread your post then. I thought that by "adding any games previously attached to the DS and 3DS platforms" you meant putting everything in one category.

I think the current separation between 3DS Virtual Console and Wii Virtual Console works and they shouldn't be merged - it seems like we agree on that. Once the Wii U launches, it would make sense to add the Wii U Virtual Console games to the current Wii Virtual Console category. In my opinion, the WiiWare and Wii U eShop categories should be different though, just like the DSiWare and 3DS eShop.
