Add from other sources

Leech 18 years, 8 months ago at Sep 7 16:33 -
Hi,

I think that could be great to allow to add products from other quality sources such as:

allmusic.com
allmovie.com
allgame.com
juno.co.uk [for music]
psyshop.com [music]

what do you think?

How about IMDB.com for DVD/movies?

Other sources may be investigated in the future but there are two problems I can think of :

1) May result in duplicate data (may be avoided if upc/ean codes are required)

2) May not be legally allowed to use the data, Amazon has an api and data use is allowed.

I will be adding data from IMDB to suppliment the dvd data. I will be adding the movie credits as I feel these are classed as public domain information.

you right..
big deal..

Well, should be great to find a way to add more sources, I'm from Argentina (in example) and not all my music is on Amazon.

Maybe allow user to manually create records for items not covered by amazon.

I think there is not any single website or source which can provide all the DVD/Book/CD/Book information. For different countries, their info-system(code) for those product maybe different also. For example, sometimes you can find two different cover pages for same CD in amazon.uk and and amazon.com.

I hope in the future, Listal could allow users add cover page and name by themselves. the cover page may be put in another website(flikr? :D), and able to be linked to here, and Listal will automatically resize it when it's shown.

i agree we need more sources...AllMusic.com has a huge database of music and is put out by the recording industry...how about getting in touch with them? I listen to some obscure emo and indie bands and I always find artist info there which isn't listed on Amazon.

I would second the need to be able to have user created records... If this is to be my central place to keep track of my books, it would need to be complete and I have some fairly rare and out-there books.

Another point: Since I have alot of first editions, getting the correct edition (and printing) of a book in here would be especially important to me, but in many cases just the latest editions are available through amazon.
