18 years, 8 months ago at Sep 17 12:26 - First off, listal is really great. We've needed something like this for a long time. But, as it is still in the beta stages and the functionality is limited that gives me the opportunity to make lots of and lots of suggestions and complaints.
First, there needs to be a way to add things to the database. The very first thing I tried to add was a dvd boxed set. It wasn't in there. So I tried to add all the dvds in the boxed set separately. Volumes 4 and 5 weren't in there.
Not everything with an ISBN works. I tried to add a board game with an ISBN and it gave me a blank page. The same thing happened when I tried to add a japanese manga.
There needs to be a way to add music other than CDs. What if I legally downloaded some mp3s from some garage band? I can't list that here? What if I legally download a creative commons license movie?
Some things that are essentially duplicates are not filtered out. For example the games database lists both mario sunshine and mario suncshine player's choice edition separately. They're exactly the same except for one slight change to the packaging. That can hurt if you're trying to search for someone who has a game you might miss it if they selected the other essentially identical option.
Lastly, there needs to be some sort of API for programmers to hook in. My friend already has a database of all his stuff on his computer. It's too much effort to type it all in here, but having it here instea d of in a file would be a thousand times more useful for him. If there was an API I could write a script to import all his stuff for him. There could also be an awesome bookmarklet so if I found a web page on the net with a product i owned or wanted I could click one bookmark and automatically add it to listal. grat.uito.us has something like that, but I think listal is definitely better than that system. The only thing is that grat.uito.us covers everything not just entertainment media.
Overall this thing is great and I hope to see lots of awesome improvements in the future. We'll soon see if it's something I keep using or not.

18 years, 8 months ago at Sep 21 0:43 - I will be adding the ability to add custom items but there are a few annoying issues. You mentioned the duplicates currently in the database, this situation would get worse allowing people to enter custom items e.g.
- Adding an items that hasn't been released yet and is later added by amazon update script.
BTW if an item exists on amazon you can add using the asin number.
I don't think the duplicates that you mention are not a problem, most collectors would want to record that they have a certain edition of a game or dvd. Filtering these out would be very difficult and require a lot of manual work anyway. I will list how many people own each item on the search results soon so people can choose the most popular one if they wish.
There will be an api in the future, I want to complete certain things on the site first before I start this.
