is 2012 the end of the world???

i saw a program on the history channel about how the world is supposed to end Dec. 21 2012, there is a lot of scientific evidence and prophecies supporting this date, this is kinda making me nervous :(

In 2012 the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's mythical starting point (equivalent to August 11, 3114 BC in the proleptic Gregorian calendar. The Long Count b'ak'tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Monument 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed.[7] This date figures prominently in the religious syncretism of New Age Mayanism. There's no destruction in that year. Sheesh.

I dont get it.
I believe that the world begins and ends.
But to put it down to a precise date? I dont think that its believable right now.
How could you prove it? I think that its just another hoax to get kids to behave before the world goes to hell

2012 not the end of the world, it could be close to it, but not the end. if we don't start working on the enviornment and stuff more (its true and you know it! but im not a tree hugger.) we could be wiped out as humans. think about it, we're adapted to a certain temprature range, if we over heat or get too cold, we die. if the o zone layer gets too big, we over heat and die out accept for the few that adapt. if the ice melts, we'll be drowned to death and at least 2/3 of the poulation is gone. so, 2012 isn't the end, but it'll be close if we don't act soon.

There are extreme possibilities that this date might just be the end, think how much damage we are doing to ourselves. We need to change near all our habits. Though I'm not sure this environmental crap will be the end I believe that war will be the cause of the end. The U.S.A. has weapons that they haven't tested but are willing to use regardless. On another not, William, if the ice caps melt causing a global flood the water level would be too high. humans can't survive at that altitude, and wouldn't have time to adapt.

Honestly, I can't help but believe the people who made up all these end of the world theories are total crackpots, William, we can't adapt with a snap of the fingers

I wouldn't say 2012 is the end, years may be a long time, but we still have a good decade at least before most of the people start going "daaaaauuuuuhhh.... Maybe we should stop..."

actually, now that i think about it, this thread is actually pretty depressing. when it happens, if it happens, we will be gone. idk why that's such a surprise to people, it happens every 3 seconds. but enough on depressing thoughts. back to reality, i agree with i heart rob (srry don't know how to make heart shape).
