[Sticky] Features in the new version of Listal

Over the next few months I am working on the next version of listal with will have some major new features. The state of the current site is frozen apart from small changes and bug fixes.

Done:

- New sidebar design with new links
- New top bar with links to switch between My movies - Friends movies - All movies
- Slightly improved design for viewlist page
- New homepage design featuring new feed feature and promoted items.
- Explore lists, reviews, videos, pictures pages.
- Redesigned explore movies/tv/games...
- Redesigned MY movies/tv/games...
- Item recommendations (could be improved)

- Ability to add videos to a person page
- Ability to create lists of people
- Show people who have voted on items, view things a person has voted for.

- More/better customization options for profile
- New not logged in homepage
- Better platform pages which will be just like explore games but only cover that platform.
- Embedding code for videos and pictures.
- Add multiple editors for custom lists
- Editable information for people (bio)
- Add videos from any source for moderators

does this mean VIPs will get to use these new features in advance (as some kind of beta testing)? i think i remeber you mentioned something like that in the past.

I will release the url today, the only change will be the new homepage.

do you care about feedback and/or suggestions to the new features, and if so, do you wish this to be posted here? one, independent of the new features, would be: please rename this group to "VIP Members" (sic!) in all places ;). right now it's called "VIP members" in the groups overview and "Vip members" in the breadcrumb trail.

Yes I want feedback, that's why I created this forum :) A lot of the updates may be in rough form though.

one bug-report: when i clicked on "post new thread" in the VIP members breadcrumb trail, the thread landed in the Anime group without being editable. for maybe 10 seconds, then it vanished (did one of the mods delete it?).

Which page did you click to post new thread from? I can't reproduce that error.

i was in this thread and used the breadcrumb trail to "post new thread". funny engouh, the second time around (after the exact same procedure) it worked flawlessly.

One little beef. When I try to access any other part of the site from the beta link I'm asked to login, and when I do I'm taken back to home. :)

That's what it's supposed to do, unless I'm misunderstanding...

Thank you. Friends have been replaced by a more flexible system of people you follow instead, you have to click on a profile page and click the follow button.

Thanks, having multiple types in lists would useful for some things but I think would be more confusing and more complicated to program, for example for 'With selected create or add to custom list' I would have to list ALL lists not just ones for that area.

With pages like this you know all the lists are related to movies: www.betalistal.com/lists/movies I'm not sure how it would work with mixed lists.

Tom, it all looks great. I noticed a while you back you said you would add TV movies (and hopefully TV mini-series which are essentially long movies) to the movies section when the new version was released. Are there still any plans for that? I know you're busy with the site so I hate to add to the barrage of questions but I was just curious about it.

Sorry for the bombardment of feedback today, Tom, but you mentioned a little while back that you were going to change the way photos and videos were rearranged. Are you going to include a new rearrangement feature for this version (i.e. drag and drop)? This could also includes reviews and lists, as Zeus mentioned in another thread. The only thing that's rearrangeable at the moment is the friends section.

Instead of allowing reordering all the items I'm going to write a feature to create sets of pictures, videos, reviews and lists which can be reordered.

With regards to the music item pages, do you think it would be a way to work in a way to add track listings? Far too many cds have no track listing on the item page and I'd really like to be able fix that.

I was thinking of adding wiki pages so people can add any pages they like for each movie,tv show etc...

But wikipedia isn't accurate. It's just people like you and me editing the page. You never know if they are right or not.
Wouldn't IMDb or RottenTomatoes be a lot better.

I think thats a great idea Tom. I do think there should be certain restrictions reserved for higher ranked individuals to do the editing. Otherwise you might get some Mummy Porn addict writing anything and everything for a movie/game. Customisation is defo the step forward.

I agree. People that contribute more and have more points and higher rank should get a couple more privileges.

Hey Tom, I noticed that the Display mode for any pages has the maximum at 60... I really enjoyed having the 100 items per page, is there any possibility of you adding 100 as an option?

Most of the display modes now go up to 90 or 100, this was changed yesterday.
