Thomas Roland Tillis is an American politician who is the junior United States Senator from North Carolina, serving since 2015. A member of the Republican Party, he was previously the Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Tillis is a graduate of Chattanooga State Community College and University of Maryland University College. Prior to entering politics, he worked a business and technology consultant at PriceWaterhouse and IBM. In 2006, Tillis was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives representing the 98th district, which included parts of Mecklenburg County.
