Tanja is thrilled to be participating in this project. The eldest of five daughters in a family of six children, she grew up in an environment where – simply by sheer numbers – women’s voices were heard and celebrated! A rarity! She has always been interested in the stories of women who came before her – not only because they are interesting, and laid the groundwork for how she is living now, but because they remind us that issues we are dealing with today are often no more difficult than the challenges faced by those who came before us. This provides perspective. As Londoners, both Tanja’s parents lived through the Second World War; and remember the bombs, rationing, panic, shrapnel and destruction. They also remember the tenacity, grit and perseverance of their own mothers and recall large parts of wartime as joyful times when simpler things held enormous value. Tanja’s mother has always said that not enough women’s stories are told – a shame, because more often than not, they are exceptional and should be heard.
Nominated twice for YWCA’s Woman of Distinction Award as well as a number of Jessie Richardson Award (for both performance and producing), Tanja is recipient of the Mary Phillips Award, the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Business and the Arts Award and the 40 Under 40 ‘Business in Vancouver’ Award.
She is the Artistic Director of Western Gold Theatre.
