Sophie Leuthart McIntosh was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She began dancing at the age of three and trained in classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz throughout her childhood, performing and competing both nationally and internationally. In 2012 she was awarded 4th place at the National Young Performer of the Year Award, and was a semi-finalist at the Genee International Ballet Competition.
