Description: Sofya Vasilyevna Kovalevskaya (born Sofya Vasilyevna Korvin-Krukovskaya) was a Russian mathematician, a scientist, a professor, a writer, and an editor. She was born in Moscow, Russia on January 15 (January 3, Old Style), 1850. She is famous for the Cauchy–Kovalevskaya theorem in mathematics, and the Kovalevskaya top in mechanics. The lunar crater Kovalevskaya, the asteroid 1859 Kovalevskaya, and three educational facilities were named in her honor.
