Being born to 70s pop musician Billy Swan, Sierra's love with music started at an early age. Her sister Planet is also a singer, and a major influence on Sierra learning to love the family trade. In 1997, Sierra hooked up with Graham Edwards and Dollshead was formed, signed and eventually dropped from MCA. She was a member of Black Eyed Peas for about three months, before deciding to go solo.
In 2000 Sierra began her solo journey, where she soon would be discovered by Anne Previn and Scott Cutler from the band "Edna Swap", they looked over her demos, and asked her if she would like to participate in writing together
In 2000 Sierra began her solo journey, where she soon would be discovered by Anne Previn and Scott Cutler from the band "Edna Swap", they looked over her demos, and asked her if she would like to participate in writing together. Interested, she accepted. She was signed to Atlantic Records in 2001.
Soon she completed the "Queen Of The Valley" LP (then titled "Queen of the Valley Girls"), but because she was dropped from her label, it would not see the light of day until 2008. The LP featured such producers as Chad Hugo (of The Neptunes) and Linda Perry (formerly of the musical group 4 Non Blondes). Swan fought hard to retain the master tapes in parting though and apparently succeeded in doing so.
Linda Perry one day called Ms. Swan, and told her she was going to get her a deal at Interscope Records, and she did, then eventually came the marvelous "Ladyland" LP, her officially released debut solo album. The album had timid beats, almost hidden gutars, and piano driven criteria.
Sierra then went on to release an EP entitled "Coward", available on iTunes only, in 2007.
In May 2008, she was finally able to release the "Queen of the Valley" LP. She also made it available for mp3 download on her official website. She then released the single "Sex is Keeping Us Together". The recording as a whole is generally regarded as her most versatile compilation of compositions due to its variance compared to the piano driven "Ladyland" LP & "Coward" EP.
Sierra reports in her myspace blog that she is scheduled to record "Girl Who Cried Wolf" in October/November 2008 at Kung Fu Gardens in North Hollywood. She elaborates that she will be writing and producing this record herself. She lists some song titles as: "Girl Who Cried Wolf", "The Truth is", "Who am I", "Deep Wound", "Walk Straight Through My Door", "Ode To William" & "Oh You".
Sierra also releases free downloads of demos & unreleased material periodically on her myspace page. You can see examples of this in her myspace blogs.
