Rose Wylie is a British painter born in 1934 and living and working in Kent.
She was awarded the 2011 Paul Hamlyn Prize for Visual Arts and the 2009 Threadneedle Prize.
In 2012 she had a major retrospective at Jerwood Gallery. In 2013 an exhibition at Tate Britain featured recent works.
Wylie's paintings are inspired by film, literature and current narratives; perhaps from newspaper from her studio floor or stories from her world. Her large-scale paintings are often presented in book formation, using the angles found at the corner of a room.
Her husband was the painter, Roy Oxlade.
