Robert Preston was an American stage and film actor and Broadway singer, best known for his collaboration with composer Meredith Willson and originating the role of Professor Harold Hill in the 1957 musical "The Music Man" and in the 1962 film adaptation. Preston starred in two of Blake Edwards' films, "S.O.B." (1981) and "Victor/Victoria" (1982), in which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also served as an intelligence officer with the 386th Bomb Group of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
