Joseph "Blue" Smith. Joe Smith is the father of 4 members (Baby Blue,Pleasure,Spectacular & Slickem. Only Spectacular and Baby Blue have the same mother, Darlene Braxton).
According to a 2005 story in The Miami Herald, the brothers "were originally called Pretty Ricky & The Maverix, until the country group the Mavericks objected, and the brothers decided 'y' endings are "more masculine" than 'ie'".
In 2004, they recorded "Grind With Me" and "Grind On Me" which began to get heavy airplay on Miami radio stations. "Grind With Me" and "Grind On Me" were the number one most requested records in the history of radio station WPOW Power 96, which lead to a deal with Atlantic Records and international exposure. After signing the deal, the song was re-recorded with familiar titles, "Grind With Me" & "Ride With Me", less explicit versions of their hit single, which lead to their debut album in 2005, Bluestars. The band toured with Omarion, Bow Wow, Chris Brown, Bobby Valentino, B5, Young Joc and other acts in the Scream Tour IV concert series. Their first album "Bluestars" went Platinum, selling over 1,000,000 copies worldwide
Their second album, Late Night Special went Gold to sell over 850,000 copies worldwide was released January 23, 2007. The album included the smash hit singles "On the Hotline" and "Push It Baby" which featured Sean Paul. The video for Push It Baby was shot in Progue, directed by Diamond Blue Smith and Dave Myers with a million dollar budget.
In 2008, the group recorded a third album "Eighties Babies" with 16 songs on it and 5 videos the album leaked onto several online music sites, due to the hype of the fans, the album was leaked all over the internet and Pretty Ricky's former company Atlantic Records forced the group to shelve the album permanently. The album was pushed back several times then finally leaving it at a date of release, October 14, 2008. "Eighties Babies" was then set for a free download, and was recognized as one of the most fastest downloaded album of all time. The album spawned five singles including, "Cuddle Up" Featuring Butta Creame, "Knockin' Boots '08, "Shonin'", "XXL", "Marry Me". The album will always be available for a digtial download all across the internet. After the leak of "Eighties Babies", Pretty Ricky left Atlantic Records and started fresh on their new label Bluestar Records Entertainment International.
In 2009, the group released a self titled album "Pretty Ricky" with two smash hit singles "Tipsy in Dis Club" and the creative "Say A Command". The album sales with this album never competed with the sales of the last two Platinum and Gold albums. Debuting at #97 on the Billboard Charts selling over 10,000 copies in the first week. The album is still currently selling. No word on the exact album sales.
Their newest album will be released this fall (2010). The title of the album is "Bluestars 2". The album will contain songs with artists like the New Boyz, Trick Daddy, Jacki-O, Jodeci, H-Town, Keke Wyatt (Baby Blue's ex-girlfriend) and Butta Creame. Sources close to the label say that several major labels are in bidding war and are offering Pretty Ricky a seven-figure deal, considered strange, for what probably won't be an anticipated or awaited album.
